my mountain bike was stolen outside my house in Burbank Thursday afternoon and was seen 30 minutes later in H & S Bicycles on Victory in Burbank. It was blue and red with sun lights and Kenda tires. The owners recognised it but the kid got away. Anybody see the bike I'd love to get it back and reward that person. BTW the kid is in Police custody but NO BIKE!!!

For those of us that don't know you, can you post a picture of your bike? Eyes are pealed!

I get down to that area quite a bit. I'd like to see what the bike looks like so I know what I'm looking for.
By the way, all the guys at H&S kick ass and will help you find the bike the best they can. Chances are very good that the bike will find it's way back into that store again. If the kid hat has it now isn't dumb enough.....The kid that steals it from him most likely will be.

I'll try to find a picture of it. Probably have to be stock from the Kona web site or something. Rob from H & S used to own it himself. Bought it from him. Thanks for your help!!!

I'm in the Glendale/Burbank area and I'll keep my eyes posted. Damn punks! Hey... so they detained the kid for questioning?
I'd have to agree that everyone at H&S has been good to me and are a great crew.
I was wondering what would be a good way to permanently mark your bike w/ an ID of some sort. Like.. a serial number can be sanded off How about engraving something on the inside part of the rim... like underneath the rim tape. Anyone done this?
I'll keep an eye out on your bike on the Burbank/Glendale border in case those punk kids decided to cruise to the Galleria.

I spoke to a Glendale police officer. She said drimmel some code somewhere on your bike that no one can see and register it with the police. All the police departments share computer info. (I actually got another stolen bike back that way)
The kid that stole my bike had a gf in westhills (I'm quite the detective aren't I?) It's possible it went out there. The stories this kid says vary by the minute!
Thanks for anyone's help. See you on the big ass summer ride!

if you're not into dremmeling your bike parts...here's an easy solution...
put your address on a small sheet of paper...laminate it...roll it up...and insert either into your handlebar tube or your frame tube where the seatpost is...put the handlebar cap or seatpost back on...
if you ever recover your bike...you can pop it open, and show them that you are the rightful owner

I have no info about your Kona but in case anybody else got a kona stolen. Some guy approached me close to the whole foods on Santa Monica and Fairfax and offered me a downhill kona all spraypainted black last night. It was about 10 pm. He said he was from Santa Barbara. He said he would try to sell it in Hollywood today. I dont know if it was stolen or not, but it was too cheap to be true.

Take good pictures, with closeups, of your bike and write down serial numbers. Post them on a public gallery or on flickr too, for good measure.

fonsoy was it a hard tail? Kenda tyres? maybe night sun lights on it? If so that was probably mine!!!!!!1

There are like three downhill models on the kona website. I dont think it was this years model, probably an older version but it was NOT a hardtail. It was full suspension similar to the one in this picture but all painted black.

Thanks Fonsoy!
Yeah that was not my bike (or similar) as the days fade I'm looking at a replacement, maybe a Niner. I just can't believe there's nothing one can do esp. when you know who nicked the bloody thing!!!

Sorry I wasn't of much help to you.
Bike theft really seems to be on a rise.
In less than a year, 5 of my closest friends have lost there bikes this way.
Hope you find a good deal on your next bike.

I got my bike back yesterday!! Through all the word of mouth a guy in Burbank, where it was stolen, had heard about 'a' Kona, that obviously didn't belong to the person who had it and acted like the good samaritan. It's been abused and needs a few parts but basically in good condition.
Thankyou Alex!!

IT looks a bit sad but it'll be better. I think a trip over to Athena Cycles should sort it out.
