I just noticed that someone is trying to put together a DTLA mochi ride on mondays -- maybe the next time we have a level 1 we can join them for a portion of our ride and then zip over to the USC campus -- there's a good photo op at the school of philosophy there....

Its from El Atacor #11 @ 2622 N Figueroa St.
Someone on the ride had rec'd it and I had read reviews about the mashed potato tacos (tacos de papas) and the Super Burrito (aka the Porno Burrito). I think that burrito was like 6.99 -- I didn't taste it, but the carnitas sopes and the tacos de papas I had were great. Cheaper than Burrito King and Rambo's Tacos, which had been my neighborhood go-to spots.

The ride turned out to be steeper than I thought it would be b/c we got to a patch on Mulholland where I had to pedal standing, even in my lowest gearing. But, we had a detour in Echo Park and ended up at Alex's for some home brewed beers.

I think last night we got back to Footsies at 11:15...but we did take a long-ish break for pie in the middle there. So worth it.
Did anyone ever get Mr. Mountain biker's name? He deserves a medal for perseverance. See you next week.

Hey KiMS1 (Mike), one of our goals with Cyclones was to get the ride over early enough for those of us who couldn't start at 10pm. Super manly type insomniacs like John can warm up on our ride and continue onto Wolfpack. The pace of the ride is up and down, we try to keep the whole group involved. Some weeks are more work than others but we try to focus on having a good time, creative route, etc.
Come on down!

Kevin I think the whole reason why everyone is so eager to ride through CSULA was flying down the parking structure. =) I am stoked about this weeks route.

Great seeing everyone tonight! Airport, aliens, tacos and beers -- a great welcome back to Los Angeles.
Louis, totally bummed not to see you at the finish especially since you rocked it (yet again) with the mountain bike. I hope you keep coming out because you don't take a single break.
Dan, the next time you come out make sure to give me your number! We waited at the bottom of Griffith Park but didn't see you.
And a special shout out to Molly, one of these days all our female Cyclones will come together and form a killer storm!

i dropped my gatorade and didnt want it to go to waste! hah
and everyone went down the hill pretty fast and i lost you guys
when i passed forest lawn. it took me awhile to figure out that i was
supposed to turn on forest lawn so i backtracked and im sure you
guys were gone. i managed to finish the route but i decided to head
home instead of the bar because of unnecessary responsibilities. =|
it was a great route though!

i don't got a helmet right now, but i want to ride on monday with u guys and gals. i did the dark century 8 with u and i was just wondering if it was a MUST to have a helmet! i don't want to show up and be asked to leave.
DETOXXX08.25.10 - 5:40 pm
reply
i remember you from the dark century! i'm sure that you are a good rider, but we are concerned about all the drivers out there and bad road conditions that are beyond our control.
even at low speeds you can tip over or fall, and having to get a cat scan costs way more than a helmet. my cat scan was like $355, while a serviceable helmet can be bought for $15.
we do have occasional riders show up without a helmet and we don't ask them to leave, but a) we are not responsible if you get hurt b) we will nag you about not wearing one and c) i don't want to see your brains on the concrete. please get a friggin' helmet, not for our ride, but for yourself.

I know i'm a little late responding to this but take it from me. Wear a helmet. cracking a bone is way better than cracking your skull. Cracking a skull can be the difference between walking or having a physical therapist teach you how to walk again as they wipe the drool from your lip.
Wear a Helmet!!!

Steve, Tom, EVERYONE, come again.
Thanks to Alex and Nancy for leading the ride last night.
In other news . . .
Hey Cyclones Gang, read the route description! Sometimes we argue whether a ride is a Category 2 or 3 and sometimes we actually call the ride a 2.5 but when we come right out and say the ride is a 1 . . . it's a 1! This week was an effort to bring some new peeps out who wouldn't otherwise make it. There were 6 girls at the meet-up! That didn't happen by saying we were doing 50 miles of fast climbing. Clearly we are not going to have 3 beer stops every week, this is not a party ride. That said, we do try to mix it up and have some fun, including some good hustles. Speaking of hustles, look around you. There is at least one person on the ride who can drop you like a cheap whore at any time but notice dudes who go to Wolfpack after Cyclones don't feel like they need to push the pack because they are going to a fast ride later and it doesn't make them feel cool to be faster than a bunch of girls and riders who are just getting their feet wet. If you want to see how fast you are come out to TRFKAS on Wednesday. If you are done eating at the end of the ride before the majority of the ride makes it to the food stop . . . you're pretty fast.
Look, I want everyone to have a good time but when girls show up or people make a decision which bike to bring because of the route we don't go and blow that out of the water. I want the ride description to matter. I spend TIME on this shit (maps, route slips, food stops, pictures, etc) because I think it makes for a better ride.

Woah! It’s been a while... I noticed the ride leaves at 8pm tonight (vs ride @7:30 as I recall.. or maybe I just made that up because anything before 9pm is “early” for me) so maybe I can start making out to this ride more often.
If I get out of work early enough I’ll see you guys tonight.

So if last night's ride (22 MPH into a 20 MPH headwind on 6th St.) was a Category 2, I look forward to seeing what a 2-3 might portend.
