Hey all,
Just wanted to let everyone know that there is a new-ish ride on Wednesdays (NOT MOM or KUSH), that is a quick paced 20-40 miler with a few regroups and usually food at the end.
This ride is made up of many of the people that used to do the Ktown Forge and Gorge and many new faces as well.
Meet Place: Glendale & Fletcher Starbucks
Meet Time: 7, Leave at 7:30
Around 20-40 miles. Quick pace. Regroup points.
Any bike is welcome, but we DO keep a quick pace so roadbikes/fixed are encouraged.

The ride post is correct the start point is Santa Monica / Vermont. The ride has been going strong for several months now. We just changed the meet spot to be central to a majority of the regular participants. (Although farther from me…assholes!!!!!)
This is the first week at the new meet spot at Santa Monica and Vermont. Come on out it is always a fun time.

I had a blast on this, while I lasted. I broke off halfway on Vista Del Mar.
That crosswind KICKED MY ARSE!!!!!
I was already hitting the wall at the end of culver. Until Shawn, I believe, and a messenger from DTLA passed me and they pulled me halfway. Then they just left me...
Regardless, this gave me what I wanted. A training ride. And boy was it some training.

Yes, we run reds, but not all the time.
We use our own discretion (something all riders should do).
Alfredo, was that you on the older road bike? If so, good hustle man. You would be doing a lot less work if you were changing gears more.
Either way, I'm glad you enjoyed it and I hope you'll come out next weds.

we waited in culver city around the 12-15 mile mark for a short stop..

Yes I was the one on the older bike, red/white. I was trying to work on my cadence.

ok good Khanjian. now just bring two copies of your registration to the ride. The first one will need to be turned into the designated ride leader for the week, and the second one will at least two signatures. You shouldn't have to pay when you get there but the sooner the better.

A little truth in advertising:
I am an experienced and pretty strong rider.
Last Week, the pack took off at Wolfpack pace, and they dropped me after about 5 miles, at a major traffic light.
The strong head wind told me I'd never catch up after that.
You need to be a strong rider to hang in.
Being young will help too.

Yeah, John gave us all route slips, so another dropped rider and I were able to double back, climb La Cienega and meet-up with the group.
As I say, too young to quit.
I must say, the pace from that point on (last 10-15 miles) was comfortable.
I ate before the ride, so wasn't hungry at the end (not to mention I didn't work as hard as the others!).

This ride has a focus on the riding to the exclusion of the procrastinating. We stop, we regroup if needed. A few get “safe”, then we roll. The real procrastination is saved for the end when we eat...out...Justins mom.

Truth be told this ride is made up of the participants and the pace at the front end is controlled by whoever wants to take the lead. Typically I don’t personally contribute to whipping the pace up but if someone wants to stretch it out I’m not one to ask them to slow down. With that being said this ride is for everyone and I truly mean that.
Here are the things that enable anyone and everyone to participate in the fun that is this ride.
1. We post the exact route we will use a day or two in advance.
2. We provide detailed route slips.
3. We have multiple stop/regroup points listed on the slips.
We also have a post ride meal that always ends up being as much fun as the ride. And depending on the amount of beer and wine consumed sometimes more fun than the ride;) So even if you do lose the group you can always head to the food stop and have an enjoyable night out with us.
Lastly if you think there’s a chance you might drop feel free to get some of the regular’s numbers. Many people have done this. If you send one of us a text that you are still rolling to one of the designated stopping points we will wait.
This ride literally gets more fun each week and everyone should come on out!

I made it my first time and I felt tired as hell after everyone left me on PCH but I caught back up after pushing it to the max that I had that day. I felt a lot stronger after the ride though and a great sense of accomplishment. Will be there this week.

Great route today John, keep it up. We should keep hitting up the east, I love hustling to new places. The drivers seem a lot more bike friendly too. Silverlake should be everyday! We need a hustle ride on Friday or the weekend.

It’s awesome so many of you enjoyed the route last night.
Just so you know the route was a collaborative effort between one of downtowns finest, Ash a.k.a. axolok and myself. He was unable to join us last night do to an untimely run in with a car door. Not to worry he’s ok and recovering nicely.
What I want to highlight is that this ride is always a collaborative effort. Anyone, even a first time participant, can be a contributor. If you have a route you’d like to share feel free to post it early in the week. Everyone gets a chance to take a look and if the majority is down then we do it. It’s just that simple.

This time it’s a bit different. The most eastern “tip” of the route is Donut Man in Glendora. We will be stopping there to socialize and eat as many fresh fruit stuffed donuts as humanly possible. Once we have consumed all that Donut Man has to offer we return to Hollywood!

I’m not really sure on the average speed of the ride. Obviously it changes from week to week based on the route and the participants. It’s defiantly not considered a fast ride. Don’t get me wrong it has its moments of speed but they are usually short. The best way to, as you said “catch” a certain group is to just come out and ride with them. Tonight is going to be a good one. The route is almost entirely flat and we have several planned stops. So it’s good clean fun for the entire family!

The only thing Pro level about this ride is the fun!!!
Of course we always like to encourage safety but we ride on public roads so there is nothing requiring you to wear a helmet unless you’re a minor.
As for a mountain bike, we had a guy on one last week and he did fine. He did have road type tires. We typically provide route slips and do scheduled regroups for those who like to take a break from the occasional spicy nature of the pace. The best way to find out all you need to know about this ride is to come join in the excitement.

Hey guys, I'm ditching Silverlake this Weds to go to the Malibu Public Safety Commission meeting and discuss safety issues on PCH, specifically as they relate to cyclists. I know lots of you ride PCH. Any thoughts/issues you'd like me to bring up if I have the chance?
I'm gonna try and come by the food stop afterwards...

@ danceralamode: Perhaps you could ask the commission to work on having more scantly clad Asian women walking up and down PCH through Malibu. Personally I think that would enhance bicycle safety well beyond what any other measures could provide.

For this week's TRFKAS I thought we'd mix it up a bit. A shorter than usual route that ends @ Cap n Cork Market. After gathering our refreshments I'd like to invite everyone to the Moontower (my home) for some hangtime. I'll be throwing down some killer psychedelic jams!
We could order some pizza pies and see where the beer takes us...

Man this was my first silverlake ride... cool group last Wed but I should have bailed my road bike wasnt able too keep up with all the track bikes there. Fun route I got dropped from the pack but I did finish thanks too the route slips. This was no party ride and some did get pulled from five-0 for running reds. Too bad I'm cut from the pics too :( thanks guys for the first 27 miles I stuck with ya.

The pace varies depending upon the terrain and weather conditions. With that being said this ride is for everyone. We provide route slips and have designated regroup locations listed on the slips. The best way to prepare for this ride is to do this ride.

TRFKAS is moving... New Start / Meet Location....
Starting this week we are leaving the hallowed grounds of Santa Monica /Vermont Metro Redline station for greener pastures...
Thanks to Molly who is gracious enough to open a little later for us...the masters of the universe are thus making a new home....

This week we add a little who-ha into the hoorah of our beloved wednesday, and take a trip down to Downey for a little sight-seeing...For no particular reason TRFKAS is goin ala "Golf n Stuff" made famous by Mr. Maccio aka The Karate Kid...Get your scissor kicks goin and come on out for a piece of history?
and if that wasnt enough Los Feliz finest(???) will be providing mac-daddy cheese balls if you so desire...

Different routes each week. Around 40-50 miles. Spicy pace. Route Slips, Regroup points and Food to cap a joyous evening...
Any bike is welcome, but we do keep that spicy pace so road/track bikes are encouraged.
Bring the usual stuff you'd bring out to rides: tubes, tools, lights, helmets(would be nice but not frowned upon if you don't) and overall common sense...
