Who all got tickets? How did they single you out of the hundreds?

i met a guy and a girl on the goldline home, she was all bummed cus she got a red light ticket infront of city hall.
where are you? tell us about it...

you probably met ben and randy on the goldline. i was riding next to randy having a pleasant conversation with her before being ticketed. there were so many bikes out, i wasnt really paying attention as to where i was in the pack, but im assuming it was towards the back? after turning left onto main from 2nd, i heard sirens and a few squad cars fly up the far left lane and swerved right and cut off the pack and told everyone to get on the sidewalk. apparently we ran the red at 2nd/main.

Red light ticket in front of City Hall?!?! That's not cool.
That's like inviting your friends over, then when they go to sit on the couch you shoot 'em with a spray bottle.

a noob to the fixed gear/midnight ridazz....
not to mention u.p.s dropped my fixie around 430 that day...4/24/09
first time on a fixie, first time lacm...
i get a ticket wtf....
i was ridding more towards the back of the group, when i got cut off by
lap, lieutenant albert gavin cell phone number (661)803-7763 and his asian partner aka "trader"..... told me to put my bike down and sit on the stairs...
i got a new ride its called "riddin the school bus...
everybody wears yellow shirts and if the leaders of the group goes threw the light on green and turns red in the middle of the group then it wouldnt be running a red light b/c we will just b a really really long yellow school bus....church

I did not get a ticket, because I did not listen to the cops.
Me and a few other people, including Steve of the Bikerowave, were riding down Main St. pass Parker Center. The cop cars came up from behind us and yelled through their loudspeakers. "Everyone off the street and onto the sidewalk! This is an order!." So we all got onto the sidewalk. The cops stopped their cars then came out and started yelling, "stop, stop! You with the hat. Stop!" So since I was wearing a helmet, and Steve wasn't wearing a helmet or a hat, we took off down the sidewalk with a few other people. We crossed 1st Street at Los Angeles then rode back up to City Hall where the main group had congregated.
We found out later they were ticketing for running the red light when the entire group made a left turn onto Main St from 2nd St.
We are not sure how they were able to differentiate between one bicyclist and another. It might be a form of "collective punishment" since the light was green when our group turned left.

yeah, the light was green when randy and i went through it, too. but you know, guilty by association.

I don't recall being bummed about getting a ticket, I think ben was more bummed out than I actually. I was just really hungry at that point. Lolz
Ya RBI I'm never riding with you again. And we couldn't run off and keep riding with the rest of the group since the cop cars came in and pinned us towards the sidewalk.
So ya let's fight this bogus ticket. Because there's nothing like getting ticketed by a cop that admitted to failing English.

Back in my running days, there was a race called "Devil take the hindmost". Each lap, the last runner was pulled off the track.
These police actions are just like that.
Try to stay imbedded in a nice pack of ridazz to avoid the random selection by the cops.
Even so, there will always be a hindmost which we don't want the devil to pinch. I think we will have to start obeying the lights and form a regroup stratigy for future big rides. It is clear we will no longer be able to cork and run reds with immunity.

Next time, why doesn't the entire ride go back and get tickets? I mean, think about it, 200 riders and we all get tickets? We can then go to court and have a serious complaint on our hands. The judge would never see it. Let's think about it.
Solidarity in unity... let's not leave any ridazz behind.

Ridazz could actually stop at red lights and obey the rules of the road. That would put a stop to the tickets or provide a much stronger position when trying to get city hall to put a stop to LAPD harassment. It would also have the benefit of actually causing group rides to be MORE disruptive of traffic, too, which would probably drive LAPD nuts.

On the People's Ride, a group of us stopped at a signal at a busy intersection. That was the last we saw of the ride, we never caught up and found out we missed a turn.
Stopping at signals works when I do an ALC training ride because they provide accurate route slips so if you get caught at a signal, you can eventually catch up with the other riders.
Last night, most of us didn't even know where the ride was heading.

Once again, it's time to start calling out the young speed-demons who commandeer the head of the pack and turn a chill-ride into an all-out, bloodbath.
I say for the love of all that is Holy, the pace-ridaz should wear special shirts and/or also utilize the assistance of the system-haulers that may be present at the rides.
Create a "pace-row" up front and all the right people will stay with the tunes.
