D90 is the shit, had mine for about a month without any camera envy- except for AT's D700 of course.
For me the D90 is the perfect blend of pricepoint + features + portability

If you don't have a massive investment in Bikon compatible glass, Canon's bodies sure offer a lot of bang for the buck these days. Just a thought. Arguments can be made either way, but a 5d is some serious camera pr0n. Even if I wouldn't afford such a high end camera now, I wish I was able to invest in lenses that it or its successor would support later. I've liked Canon's general direction for a long while now, but I've had Nikon for many years.

Hey studiodrome, what Nikon glass are you selling? I have an old D70s I'm still getting by with but always on the lookout for a new lens. I'd like a true macro, but the right priced zoom/tele I might buy too.

RB- I rock a D90. It's fantastic. The sensor is almost identical to a D300, so get the D90 and save your money for good glass.

Franz is right the build quality of the d300 is insane.
D90 is awesome camera and I highly recommend it. The image quality is about the same as D300. But i crash bikes get my cameras wet so need the environmental sealing and metal housing of something like a d300.
Anyways I have a few lenses for sale
Tokina 12-24mm f4 for DX
$350 sold new for $498, ebay its $400
Highly recommended lens.
Nikon 18-200mm for DX
$555 sold new for $700
I have original packaging for both and no scratches on glass.

Well this guy at samy's is selling d90 body for $900 or a d300 refurbished body for $1200

Get that D90 and use the difference to get the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 lens. That would be sexy.

The video option on the D90 is worthless in my opinion, but I'd still go with the D90 and use the difference towards better glass as hatehills suggested

I have a D60 for sale actually
$600 for the body, 2 batteries, and upgraded lens - Nikkor 18-105 3.5/5.6 VR Zoom lens (same one that comes in the D90 kit). Everything less than a month of use, basically brand new.
Must sell!

Yes, and besides the lack of autofocus...
-auto exposure adjustments appear clunky
-video looks jarring if you pan the camera at all

I like cash more than anything... but paypal can work but you have to include an xtra $10 for the fees.
the camera is in great shape. I took really good care of it. box and manuals and a cord are included...

I too am considering getting the Nikon D90.. a big plus for me is the video.. i've seen awesome video shot on this thing.. however i'm not too happy about the non auto focus and it only shoots in 720..and it's probably terrible for shooting at night with these rides..
other then that I've heard nothing but good reviews about this camera.

It's pretty good for a dslr, but if you want to shoot video, you might as well get a video camera.
