The 1st MR Bus Meeting met at Barcade on Monday, March 24th. Approximately 20 riders showed up as well as the design team from Smash.
The primary issues discussed regarded:
• Ownership of Bus
• Liability and Insurance
• General Desirability and Feasibility of Bus Ownership
• Interior Design Specifications and Requirements
• Costs and Longterm Expenses
• Potential Trips and Bus Uses
• Formation of an executive committee and how to discuss project online.
The meeting was closed with assignments given out to individuals to investigate particular issues... insurance, corporate formation, longterm costs. The design team offered to prepare color comprehensive art of bus interior to forward the design of the projects with deadline to be two weeks. They will post their designs online. A second meeting was tentatively planned for 3 weeks.
My personal observations regarding the project is that there does seem to be strong interest and the financial resources to make this happen, should everything fall into place optimally. If the design team can wow us with sexy ideas and pictures, I know interested investors (sponsors) will grow. If this core group of riders stay on track and stay interested, I'm sure the business issues will be resolved and satisfied.
As a side note, it's also striking me that we might be able to sell some business sponsorship of the bus with the inclusion of exterior signage.

I'm going to contribute the same time and effort no matter the details of the bus (unless it's going to be used to run over armadilloes or knittens or badgers).
But I hope that we don't resort to business sponsorship or advertising on the bus. It would be F.U.N. if various bike gangs, etc., paid for tagging the bus but anything beyond that doesn't seem to be in the spirit of MR.

Sponsorship/Selling Out. That is a topic that we definitely will add to the discussion.
Speaking of discussion. A google group has been set up:
http://groups.google.com/group/bus-ridazz/
Please join the discussion. Please
try to keep conversations/discussion/debates to a minimum for now. Right now the Google Group will be the official repository for the information gathered by the select individuals with tasks. Once the information is collected, and distributed, we'll discuss each bit accordingly.
Please keep ON TOPIC, re: subject line. If you change the topic, change the Subject Line.
Note: These aren't rules, just guidelines & suggestions.

Thanks Indigis for the excellent summary.
I encourage all interested parties to join the google group. There will be no further discussion on the boards, in order to keep the information contained, but not minimal. JOIN JOIN JOIN!

I'm am unfortunately not in a position to donate much time and money to this project so obviously I don't intend to have much say in how it happens.
I think it is downright excellent that so many people are sponsoring this endeavor with promises and time and money and I look forward to seeing this project come to life.
However, if this thing is going to be affiliated with Midnight Ridazz I think it is important that it remain free of ties to advertising or any outside business.
I have only been participating in Ridazz for the last year and 1/2 but in that time I have really grown to appreciate that it is one of the few corners of my life that is free and unencumbered with advertising or ties to any capitalist endeavor. I think that this is one of the very special aspects of this community. Those of us who have helped to put on rides just do it. we offer our time and money to help others have fun because it is fun ... and somebody else has done the same for us. That is some real community and i think it is very rare and very special.
If the bus is not going to be "the Midnight Ridazz bus" then, yeah, of course, do whatever you need to do. You have no one else to answer to but the owner/ sponsors of this endeavor.
If this has already been discussed and figured out, please forgive me for not paying attention well enough and/or for not minding my own fucking business.
RIDE ON!

but Coke is so much more Ridazz than Pepsi. Can't we have a few meetings before we pick a carbonated sponsor?
Yeah, this thread turned into a sponsorship or not thread. Lets get some ideas going, talk about the issues, the tasks you are (or are not) since after the last meeting, the design schemes, how to cut a bus in half, etc. Keep it moving!
