I bought 27 inch rims with a size 14 Single speed cog but I want a smaller size. The Guy who sold me the rims said I'd have to change the hub that
came with the rims so that a size13 or 11 can fit. I kept asking him the size or name of the hub but he wouldn't tell me.
I'd like to know if that is actually true and If it is what type of hub is it.

That sounds a little silly. You should be able to fit a smaller cog on,

Also, if you're trying to go faster, and a smaller cog won't fit, you can also adjust your ratio by going to a larger chainring, so hitting up one of the bike co-ops for a bigger chainring might be an easy way to go here, the one downside being that you'll probably need a longer chain.

yeah, a bigger front chainring is a way better idea than trying to find a cog smaller than a 14.

What is the tooth count on your front chainring now?

Also keep in mind that harder gears means you have to use more legs than heart to get where you are going.

You can learn to spin a small ration and go just as fast ...plus you get the added benefit of all the cardio without the sore legs when you wake up the next day.

Thanks for the answers they really helped . Right now I have 42 16 and wanted to go back to 53 14 but wanted to go a bit lighter as well like right in between.
Ill keep everything in mind thanks again.
