Hey everyone, im looking for suggestions on this one. The drunk drivers court date is october 27th (wednesday). Im thinking we do the ride on the day before to draw media attention to that court date. If we ride on october 26th (tuesday), invite the news , television , la times, etc to meet up with us at the laurel canyon / chamberlain intersection for the 11 oclock news. Im thinking two start points (or more if everyones down).....one at woodley and victory .... the other at noho station...maybe meet at 7....roll at 8pm.....its about 8 or so miles from each start point. ANybody with hookups with the media needs to get involved. WE need to be active on this one. Thanks in advance.

great idea- move forward with this I dont know anybody in the media but I will be there to support and to ride.

Lets see if we could get that ghost bike made before then so that we can plant it at the spot of his death. Do a die-in possibly. And have some people speak.

Ok, cool, thanks for the support......im going to keep posting on this forum so people take notice........WE WILL NOT FORGET !! I need a ride leader to confirm with me for the NOHO ride start.....i will lead the woodley orange line ride. I have good connections with the media. But will probably hit everyone up to start calling , email ing etc the media in the near future. The NOHO leader needs to get a ghost bike ....i can get a ghost bike from a friend at atomic cycles in van nuys......anyhow. I think lighting candles and maybe getting a megaphone to give stories, etc.might be good... I think the die in might be too dangerous for the street.unless you can come up with a side walk die in or somthing like that....safety ya know? Not completely opposed to the idea though....Thanks for all suggestions.....lets keep this going.

You should check out www.ghostbike .org L.A.TIMES just did a story on ghostbikes one week ago it was front page news I'm sure you can get the times to cover the ride

You'll probably get more people in attendance during the evening, since the court date is probably during work hours.
How much is known about the accident so far? I've read that is was a hit & run on certain articles.

Ok everyone......the ride is coming up.
I hope everyone is going to show up at one of the THREE START locations.
1. Woodley station orange line. Meet at 8 roll at 9pm (sharp)
2. Sepulveda station (tuesday nite takeover). Meet at 8 Roll at 830
(hopefully they will be meeting up with us at the woodley station)
3 North HOllywood metro station. Meet at 8 roll at 9.
we will all meet up at Laurel Canyon and Chamberlain st. in Pacoima.
I have alerted the media. Hopefully this will be a great ride.

Thanks to all the Woodley ridazz and NOHO ridazz who came out for this event. Thanks to LAPD for helping us out (althought i dont think we needed 4 police cars and 6 motorcycles). It was a good event. RIde in Peace Daniel.

Thats why we left got to the orange line seen cops turned around went riding else where.The valley rides do not need cops rides are to small its a waste of time and tax payers money.I understand when rides are a hundred or 2 hundred strong that police are needed but when they are small its a total waste.

Update on the criminal case:
This morning, at the San Fernando Courthouse, they heard the case of the killer, Shawn Patrick Fields. He's a stocky dude, short hair, had a fairly expressionless look on his face. He had a lawyer. Most people in that courtroom were there due to minor traffic infractions, driving without a license or registration, drugs in the car, etc.
As soon as Shawn's case came up, the judge ordered the bailiff to put him in cuffs, and moved him to the holding cell. Supposedly his original bail of 100,000 was set too low, the minimum for manslaughter is 150,000. So the bail has been upped, but I'm assuming his family will probably be able to pay for it. His parents and a couple of other family members were present.
Also in attendance was Danny's family. His uncle, his sisters, and his parents were all nervously awaiting the outcome, heck, they simply wanted to see the killer's face at least.
Next court date is Nov 4th, same courtroom ("S"). The judge said he expects mandatory jail time. Full write up coming soon on BikeSideLA.org.

I didn't make it to the hearing on time, but the bailiff in Dept. S confirmed that Fields was remanded back into custody. If he or his family couldn't post the additional bond by lunch time, then he is on a Sheriff's bus to Twin Towers (county jail) in Downtown right now.
I'll keep checking the Sheriff's inmate locator page for updates.
