Today, I went on my first Kushtown. Fun ride up until we entered the Highland/Lincoln Park area.
A cop was following us. I was toward the back of the group and the police singled me out while everyone was running from them. I was at the right side and far right of the street. The officer told a rider (a rider with no lights BTW) to pull over, he didn't listen and sped up. He told me to pull over. My dumbass pulled over. Officer got out of the car grabbed me by the arm, and pulled me off the street. Put my hands behind my head and he continued to pat me down. He proceded to take my wallet, for my ID. He told me we had to get someone for running the red light. I was part of the group with Godmode that didn't run the red.
The gave me a ticket, and took my Drivers license. I had a previous ticket (from another ticket I got on a bike for being on a crosswalk with no pedestrians on it) that I never paid for.
I think it was unfortunate that I was the one who got pulled over and did nothing wrong. I do plan to fight it the whole thing.
Also, why did they have to pat me down like they did. There were also another squad cars and 4 officers around me. For one biker? I had nothing on me.
Now, I'm stuck with a red light ticket, and no Drivers Licence.
Anyone been in this kind of situation before. I remember a Taco Tuesday, about six cop cars, stopped Batman.
If his exact words were... "we had to get SOMEONE for running the red light" ... then you can exploit that if you know how to talk and question and question more during your trial
if your license was suspended, they can take away your drivers license. next time you are getting patted down, say "i do not consent to a search," and if they ask you why say "because i believe in the bill of rights."
even if you're right and the cop is wrong, justice is a cruel bitch. don't expect justice from a judge. here's the best way to fight a ticket:
-request an extension
-request another extension if you can
-pay the fine so you can request a "TRIAL BY DECLARATION"
-write what happened and include statements from the guys you were with
-be honest and sincere. make the reader feel sorry for you like i did. the person reading your statement is going to be fed up with reading bullshit excuses all day.
-if the trial by declaration doesn't go your way, request a real trial.
-at the real trial, make sure you dont get a "temporary judge." they will find you guilty no matter what. you need to see a real judge. if you get a judge that doesn't hear traffic cases all day, he won't be tired of hearing bullshit and may actually listen to what you say.
and next time, run. if you didn't run the red, he wasn't talking to you.
I made the same dumb ass mistake also stopped for a cop when he asked me to.Knowing I did nothing wrong I stopped then I got a ticket for running a red light.Bullshit will NOT make that mistake again they will have to catch me next.GOODLUCK with the fight if you lose its $381.00
That was the reason I stopped. I knew I did nothing wrong and actually thought the officer was going to ask about these rides or something. I got a ticket instead. The office even said "Eh, we'll just pull you over". The whole time I wasn't beina dick to the cops of being anti-law enforcement or anything. I was complying with eveything they asked me to. It was embarsing they padded me down and the officer grabbed by junk too.
Officer told me at the end I seemed like a good guy, be they needed to hand out a ticket to someone. They told me that they were sorry it was me.
See I told you this ride was fun !!!!! ...... That sucks ... they singled you out ... Thats pretty stupid that they couldn't catch who they wanted so they decided .. this guy can be the example ...
1. if they have a reason to stop you they can search you for weapons "for their safety" if they have reason to belive you might pose a danger. its stupid, but they always win on this argument
2. yeah, trial by declaration. i got a sidewalk ticket 11.5 months ago and got bucu extensions and just won it a week ago.
use the officer's quotes - make a simple common sense argument

That's fucked. In the past, I have also been screwed by being the one to pull over since I did nothing wrong. Whatever you do make sure you handle that shit and don't let it turn into a warrant.
Just throwing this out there... Do you think that Sgt. David Krumer would be interested in hearing about this?
It's kind of a double edge sword. Here we are fighting to be recognized as traffic and be treated fairly on the streets and yet we are liberal with the way we follow the laws.
In the back of my mind every big ride I go on, I know that I could be ticketed. It sucks and wish the cops would be cool about it all the time, but traffic laws are traffic laws.

It could be worse. I got a $1000. loud and boisterous Traffick ticket. I'm fighting it next month, matter of fact.. get witnesses. Make them right down what happened that night and when the day comes bring all your witnesses to court! Chances are that fuck tard pig won't show up any wayz.. this thread needs a big FUCK THE POLICE
i read this happened on the silverlake as well. also wednesday night, somewhere on the westside. "they had to get someone", and it's usually someone in the back. total bullsh!t tactic here, if it were me, i would fight it to the end, although if you have had priors/bench warrants, you'd lose some credibility. good luck.
It's a fucked situation--and despite that, chances of prevailing are low because of the he said/she said problem--by that I mean what the officer says usually carries significant weight by traffic court judges. That does *not* mean you should not fight it--I repeat, that does *not* mean you should not fight it. You should.
In response to petr0lb0mb's post, yes, Sgt. Krumer should be notified of any potential police misconduct issues. Don't expect him to be sympathetic, cancel the ticket, or play any role influencing what may happen wrt this particular citation, but LAPD needs to know of our concerns and potential mis-behavior issues. We don't want LAPD to get the impression that because of our silence things are a-ok.
Personally, I like the trial by declaration option--I'm an attorney and spend my day writing persuasive things to judges so that's where I know I can get the most mileage. You may want to show up in person and argue--and it you feel you can do that well, come prepared, present your issues in a concise and compelling manner, then have at it. I'd rather not waste the time and trip(s) to the courthouse (that will involve yet more time--waiting).
