The Nuart in - yes, Westwood - screens midnight movies as many of us know. I (and this other person) have been working on getting the Nuart to screeeeeen films that WE chose, if we guarantee them sales (i.e. 100 dirty bike kids eating popcorn?) ...
This is a good thing. Problem is, these "move rides" seem to work best on the first Fridays of each month. The first Friday of July is July 4th! And we're not stupid enought to compete with fireworks. The NEXT friday of the month, the Nuart agreed to screen FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS...
This is amazing!
SO: We'd like to team up. July 11, MR-riders and a new "movie-nites" idea come together and watch Gary Busey make out with Johnny Depp.

Ugh. The Dead?? What's next...the Jimmy Buffet ride?
Words can't begin to describe how much I hate The Dead. And tie-dyes. And hippies. At least Tyler's probably psyched.

This is similar to the "Chinatown to CHINATOWN" ride! I'm good friends with the people who run the NEW BEVERLY CINEMA in Hollywood, and they're interested in pretty much the same thing - letting us pick a flick for Sunday evenings (generally around 8pm), once a month.
If the CHINATOWN night goes well, this could become a regular thing!
Come out on MAY 18th and JULY 11th show your support for independently-owned revival houses!

I had a party the day Jerry Garcia died. I'm not joking...I was around 19. My friends and I CELEBRATED his death. We drank, listened to Fugazi, and burned newspapers that mourned his passing. We also screamed "He's DEAD!" at any hippies we saw for about a week after. I really don't like The Dead.

JC, I'm, I'm crushed. I was at the vigil in Griffith Park on August 9th, and video taped the whole evening. I'd shot them on both coasts for the head of Press Relations.
What was it that really turned you off about the band?

Lets drop some tabs in JC's water. He'll be alright then.

@ Stevo:
Everything.
I was in a band with a guy who really liked them. He constantly tried to get me to listen, so I've actually heard a lot of their music. Their shit is just so meandering and offensively bland. Their voices bug. That whole "white guy blues" vibe. Ugh.
And then there's their fans. That's a whole other can of worms. Even Jerry, to his credit, thought Deadheads were schmucks. How many live recordings of "Darkstar" do you really need to collect?
Obviously their fans are legion, so what do I know? Don't take it personally, Stevo :)

Oh, i don't take it personally JC. Its all good. And i'm still barely a true Deadhead with my 180+ bootlegs and 25 shows under my belt. I know lots of people who don't care for their music but your post was so strong that i was just curious what pushed you from a dislike to utter hatred.
Peace and love,
Jerry's child.

I ain't no deadhead, but Working man's dead is a masterpiece.
For the bike to it movie, I vote for "The Triplets of Belleville"

I just think that regardless of whether you like the band or not, a lot of their music has a really nice groove to ride to and dance to which lends itself nicely to our community.

A Love ride would be rad. We'd have to ride the Sunset Strip between Clark and Hilldale for sure.
I'm not a Dead fan, but I don't hate them either. Shortly after Jerry Garcia passed I was at a Sonic Youth show and Thurston Moore dedicated a song to him.

I'm hoping that Stevo will play a TISM song at the end of his ride. I think he knows which one.
