Below is the original message from Staff at Bike Kitchen
Please volunteer
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was trying to get people to build bikes at KHS for needy kids this Saturday but only a coupe people showed.
After a relatively lonely bike building Saturday, Vince C from KHS and Henry from the LACBC managed to build 16 out of 40 some bikes.
KHS has committed to working on some bikes during the week, but they will have another bike building session this coming Saturday, June 7.
Please, PLEASE, please, volunteer to help if you can either:
1) If you are free during the week, give Vince C a call:
310-632-7173 x 210
2) If you are free on Saturday, June 7, please message or call me directly: 310-722-7135 .
Beer is still available to those who volunteer! And of course, my eternal gratitude and smiles on kids faces!
Where: KHS Bicycles corporate office/warehouse near North Long Beach area.
Address: 2840 E. Harcourt St.
, Rancho Dominguez, CA 90221
Bring (if you have):
Basic bike building tools Building stand not necessary, but if you have and want to bring, that would be great too.
LACBC will provide: snacks, soft drinks, pizza lunch

If I'd known about it last saturday, I'd have shown up for a bit. I can't do this saturday at all, but would otherwise be happy to build bikes Have portable stand and a full suite of tools, to boot. If you do this again, I'd be happy to help.

What time Saturday? I have a friend coming into town and I told her I'd show her around since she's making a 5 hrs drive. If it's early I can come out for a bit. Was this posted before and people didn't see it? I know I didnt.

My bad..
This was actually a message from Bike Kitchen, not posted in MR.
Since they still needed help I thought I would post it here and see if any ridazz would be down for this.I just figured that some of us just ride and party and drink but need to also do some of the not so fun things that make you a rider and a good soul. This is a good opportunity.

personally, I think building bikes is kind of fun. Bike Kitchen should have publicized it a little more and I'm sure lots of us would have come out.

I dunno, putting together bikes for kids seems pretty fun to me. Just putting together bikes in general is fun. What time is it going down this Saturday?

Putting bikes together is fun..there is also beer and Pizza.
I meant missing out on some weekend rides to do this may not sound fun to some.
While back , I posted a ride to show up and build a community garden out of abandoned lot ...4 persons showed>>weak.Garden is huge and looks like a jungle now.Its now a block long , 16 plots of flowers to medicinal plants that are kept up by people that live in community.

I'm going in tomorrow afternoon for 3 or 4 hours. I called Vince today and set it up. I might come again Saturday for the pizza and beer.
This sounds like fun to me!

I rode over today and assembled 3 bikes in 3 hours. The first bike took the longest, the third took about 30-40 minutes. I am no expert at assembling bikes, but I'm getting better!
They have a limited amount of profesional grade tools, so if a group comes on Saturday, it will help if everyone brings some tools. What I used today, putting together girl's bikes, was: 10MM and 14MM wrenches, a 5MM hex tool and a philips screwdriver. I brought a rag which came in handy. Bring hex tools and wrenches in various sizes. Bring a work stand if you have one and are driving down. I biked, so I used one of the two work stands they have there. The warehouse has vending machines, but next time I'll bring something to drink and snack on.
They could use all the help we can offer.
I'm planning on going again on Saturday. This will be fun with others there too, come down and join me!

Hey Creative Thing, That sounds totally cool. Do you know what time it starts on Saturday? I called and left a message at KHS, but the person has not returned my call.
Did you find another job? I remembered you had an unelmployment ride a few months ago. -- Ed

Bike patrol sounds fun. I hope you get called. I can't make it to KHS this Saturday. I spoke to Vince and I'll try to make it on a weekday. It has to be from 9 am to 5 pm, which conflicts with my work hours, but I'm somewhat flexible.
