That's why I made this one later! Just for you, DON!
Also, this route should be super easy for you. We've done nearly every one of these hills on Wolf Pack before.

This is a metric century to prepare for the imperial one. Imperial is far more grand then metric, we will convert your standardized brain to our traditionalist system of prestige and history.
... Okay in reality trying to defend imperial measurements makes me gag, but hey this America, we don't have to make sense if we don't want to or some shit.

made with certified 100% REAL HILLS!

DL, none of the hills are anywhere as difficult as Sulphur Mountain Road. In fact, I know that I've seen peeps on fixed gear make it up each of these four hills. So it's hard, but not terrifyingly difficult.
Google Maps still hates me, so I can't post a visual version of the route. But it's up in the thread!
markedge03.26.08 - 12:18 pm

boooourns to velodrome. no hills, no deal.
I think it's safe to say that yes, spandex is recommendable... and let's throw in health insurance too, for good measure. Aaaaaaaaaahhhh i'm gonna die! (happy)

I wear spandex under my shorts, so as to appear street credible with the hip kids.

Y'all and your spandex/lycra/stretchie combinations.
When I ride, Dickies shorts and a wife-beater are all I need on a comfy day.

I DON'T WANNA HEAR IT...YOUR BULLSHIT.
No sass, Danny! Let me know how the scouting goes. The only part I'm worried about is bombing down Laurel Canyon. I've heard it's ridiculous for those on fixies.

ok i guess im doing this ride now. and cruzz with us if i have any strength left.
anyone got an extra front brake they want to let me borrow? i just sold mine to some kid on lafixed for alot less than its worth because im hard up for cash for another month or so.

this ride has more elevation gain in 62 miles than most centuries have in 100. see you in the morning!

No one should have any problem on a fixie. I've done all four of these hills (except Mt. Hollywood) with Wolf Pack and there were plenty of fixed riders who completed them. And kicked my ass at it, too.
I'm just worried about the downhill on Laurel Canyon. The other descents aren't too steep, but I've heard stories that bombing into the valley down LC on a fixie is really difficult.
markedge03.28.08 - 12:38 pm
reply
just keep telling me that im fine and it will make everything ok.
or someone take the brake off their fixie to let me use.

I expect it'll take us atleast 2 hours to do those first two hills. So 12:30-1:00pm?

canadienne03.28.08 - 5:51 pm

yeah... so Danny just sends me a picture from the top of the Hollywood Sign just now... cuz you know, the ride wasn't long enough for them, I guess.
canadienne03.28.08 - 6:50 pm
reply
.....I just woke up from my lil' nap..dude this route is absolutely fun yet hard as hell..You should rename this ride "fixed gear death trap" . Honestly bombing down LC and Barham was amazing, I could not even imagine doing it on a fixed.Besides that, just beware on pothole/shitty drivers on San Fernando and Ceasar Chavez. If you are real troopers-do the Hollywood Climb after! Thanks Mark and Danny!!!!!!!

ive done cesar chavez from like, atlantic all the way back to silverlake and i dont remember the roads being that bad. i mean, not worse than any other typical la street that isnt koreatown/the bike district.

In regards to riding to the Hollywood Sign, I always heard that area was haunted.
Perhaps a night-assault would be good for the future.

oh wait laurel canyon is not for a fixie newb unless they have a brake, I dont have a computer on my bike but we passed car traffic going down hill, I'd be more worried with the chevy chase downhill on a fixie cause of the curves, I had to really lean into them cause there was some car traffic and they dont slow down, this part is way steeper and has some really sharp turns.

Nice riding with y'all Saturday (for the 2/3 of the Metric that I did). Just to make up for what I missed, I did 30+ miles up to Montrose and back via Verdugo on Sunday morning. I was the slowest of the group, but I got to bomb down Chevy Chase again (twice in two days); in the wet this time.
