...Eddie, do you know how fast those people are moving in those "few meters"? Do you know the physical requirements to GO that fast?
If you've ever watched a track race, you would not be naysaying these guys.
That's like saying Olympic sprinters only run a "few meters", or gymnasts only "walk across a balance beam" or some other ludicrous statement.
What we do is amazing, sure, but not on a physical requirements level.

morning eddie
yeah the way i look at it is i would rather Win at a great sprint than at riding around all day, less time and more instant gratification.

Eddie, head over to the velodrome in Encino and check it out. You'll find that it is a lot harder than it looks. Also, depending upon the type of race, there can be a ton of strategy involved.
Consider this, the distances we ride can only be considered middle distances for cycling, and the intensity with which we do it is about equivalent to a casual jogger. So what we are doing is about the equivalent of the folks who go out and run 10K runs on the weekends. Even if they ran competitive distances, whether 100m sprints, the middle distances, or the marathon, they are under no illusions about the level of athleticism required to be competitive on the world stage. Cycling is no different. Track riders are riding those "few meters" at a level of intensity that the vast majority of us couldn't come close to matching, just as none of us can run a sub-10 second 100 meter dash.

As someone who busts their ass at the track weekly for the past few months, I can tell you that it's not "pussy shit."
Every single event invovles strength, strategy, and sheer balls. It's not just about riding a bike in a circle. Track racing is a serious sport that requires tons of training to even get DECENT at.
At 35+ mph, all it takes it one fuck up and you can have yourself a possibly career ending (or life altering) wreck. There is a lot more involved in track cycling than just being "really fast", if you have no strategy you can be the fastest person on the track, and still lose.
Now go watch a youtube video of keirin racing in japan and tell me that full contact cycling in the rain (in which body armor is worn to prevent your skin from being peeled off by the grippy track surface) is a sport for wimps.
