A small handful of people might remember my first time trying to organize a ride for last years 12th annual Tofu Festival. I know a few of you coveted your tofu spoke card from my very limited run. It was my intention this year to do this again, but on a larger scale (as in more then 5 people showing up) and a lot more experience putting rides together.
However there is SAD NEWS!! Do to redevelopment in Little Tokyo, the organizers were unable to secure a sufficient space for the festival this year. OOOH NOES!!!!!
Perhaps I will try to host a tofu themed event anyways to at least modestly fill the now gaping tofu vacuum that has been created. I'll announce more details later if I decide to do this.

I went to the Tofu fest last year. It was like Tofu prison. It was 100 degrees with no shade and you had to mill about in an enclosure packed with starving vegetarians. But Tofu has such a "firm" grip on me that I am still sad to hear this news.

There's a million tofu places in Koreatown, but the tofu fest is different.
Maybe we can have a smaller tofu fest at ridge way.
As for starving vegetarians...pfftt.. I'm vegan and you should see how much food I eat on a daily basis.

Tofu House is a trap. It's really just a Korean restaurant that has super soft Tofu on the menu.

I have been meaning to, and failing to, attend the Tofu Fest for at leats 10 years! Fuck!
I hope they get their curd together and figure this out.

I was one of the starving vegetarians I was talking about. The portions they were dishing out at Tofu Fest were perpetuating the myth that veg eaters can't pack it in.

Weak on the portion size!
Next time I have a vegan potluck you should come. A buddy of ours made deep fried tofu. He used 12 blocks of tofu in all. I think there was about 20 of us and there was still a TON of his tofu left over afterwards.
I made BBQ tofu and used 4 blocks, next time I will probably use about 8 or more.
Let's make the tofu fest happen!

Where in LA can you buy the wholesale blocks of tofu? As oppposed to the little grocery store variety.
There's a couple of asian wholesalers around Traction that are open to the public for retail. Resteraunt blocks = massive savings.
We used to dumpster Wildwoods production facility in Santa Cruz. Soooo much tofu, seitan, fake meat extravaganza etc.

I'm glad to hear other interested tofu peoples supporting the idea to host our own tofu event. I think it would be nice for it to be a potluck style event in an open space gathering place, perhaps a park or beach area. Maybe we can enlist the support of some grill bike folks like Fuzzbeast for doing fresh tofu BBQ at the event.
About buying tofu in bulk, it requires a membership (I have one) but tofu can be had on the cheap at Costco.

You can get tofu straight from the bucket at that (relatively) large Asian market on Sunset Blvd in Echo Park. It's most often referred to as 'Asia Del Pueblo', not because it is an Asian store in a mostly Latino neighborhood, but because across the street used to be a community space called Casa Del Pueblo (which has since relocated to Glendale Blvd). We got tired of saying, 'The Asian store across the street from Casa Del Pueblo' so its new name was formed.
As a cyclist you probably know the exact spot because 1) There's a crosswalk on a downhill 2) Often there is a truck unloading in the bike lane.
Count me in for anything tofu and bike related.

The grocer bike punk speaks of is called "A-market" aka "a grocery warehouse."
I go there all the time, but I have yet to see the huge blocks of tofu. Where are they hiding?
