Hey i was wondering what are some good hills to climb in the hollywood area? I tackled laurel canyon the other day which was fun and i heard that the route to the observatory is pretty cool too. any others i should check out? If its not too hot on sunday i was thinking of trying to find one. anybody care to join?

It's always fun to go up to the observatory after the sun sets, as the roads are closed to cars.
(at least they were last time I went up there)
Don't forget to check out the stars in a telescope.

If you like hills, you might as well head up Glendale Blvd and turn right just before you hit the 2 Freeway. Then climb the little hill known as Fargo. That will keep you entertained for quite some time.
Have fun! Lots of good climbing in SoCal.

Nichols Canyon is a great ride in the Hollywood hills. Safer than Laurel too.

You people are crazy. When you're done, I have some electrical sockets you can stick forks into and some razor sharp envelopes that need licking. Crazy...Crazy I tell you!

Oh shush JC. You don't know what's good for you!
Unfortunately I don't know the names of any of em... but the ALC Midnight Ridazz team did some awesome hills on our training rides. The most epic ones were in Ojai though... I know we're planing to go back there for a ride sometime soon. Keep your eyes peeled for any Ojai ride postings (we carpool up).

Speaking of Hollywood and hills, have you been to the Hollywood sign?
We usually go up Beachwood, left on to Ledgewood (be sure to down shift here, Ledgewood has a short stretch of 30 degree incline). At the end of ledge wood turn right onto Mullholland Highway and at the end of it there is an off-road trail that leads to the final paved road that winds its way up to the very top just above the sign.

I still like the climb that goes from Arrowhead Rd/Hwy 138 out to Silverwood Lake.
A nice, 10 mile push up to a lake that's well-stocked with Catfish and Salmon that are large enough to swallow Dingo and the babies!!!

yeah it was kinda foolish but i did laurel canyon later in the evening, when it was cooler. I didn't expect the traffic to be that crazy, but it was totally worth it when i got up to mullholand, where there are awesome views of la. Also the decent back down on beverly glen was
really amazing. do it

upstate, i'll second many of the hollywood area climbs mentioned here...
nichols is a classic climb. take it to mulholland and then ride to sepulveda.
go up to the hollywood sign like gary suggests.
go up franklin canyon through the park to mulholland. very pretty and no traffic.
laural and coldwater are unsafe, though laural going down to the valley is the fastest ride i've ever found (52mph)
next, go explore the santa monica mountains from pch. those are some real climbs! have fun. and come train with Team MR

I got lots of hills in my back pocket. In that area, the best are Stradella, Tree People, Franklin, Benedict, Beverly Glen, Nichols, Mulholland, Woodrow Wilson, Multiview, and there's a few more I can't remember right now.
