Jeronimo just emailed me about having a Sheldon Brown memorial ride. Sounds like a great idea. My suggestion would be somewhere in the middle of southern california and los angeles. probably anaheim or santa fe creek and invite everyone. whos down to help put this together..?? thinking daytime this sunday maybe? I really loved dude's website and referred to it many times.

I live between the Anaheim and Coyote Creek areas. I can help scout a route. I know some places with tacos and beer for an end point.
I could help with a low tech spoke card. I'm an artist but don't have the computer toys right now.

Rad idea!
There is of course no better way to honor this man's legacy.

That sounds perfect. I don't know what I would have done without all the incredible information and insight on his website.
If only I had a Raleigh 20 to ride!

one thought would be the santa fe creek bike path heading west from yorba linda to the beach and back.. a nice peaceful car-free bike path that everyone can enjoy.

To ride from Yorba Linda to the beach, the only bike trail I know of is the Santa Ana trail.

I really hope this pulls together and we actually do this, as he was certainly worthy of it. I'm not at all familiar with the area, but I'll certainly be willing to show up for the ride if you guys post one up. Someone ought to document it and send it to Harris Cyclery, too.

They're discussing this idea (independently) on LAFixed. The 24th was mentioned as a possible date. Maybe there should be some crosstalk between the forums to settle on a date and make it all-inclusive.

I took a shot and sent an email to Harris Cyclery about our planned ride and I got this speedy response:
That's awesome!
You might also list it at
http://sheldonbrown.blogspot.com. There is a ride list starting to grow there. The response has been overwhelming, and we have created a file of emails and news to pass on to Sheldon's family. Yours will be included.
best,
Elton @ Harris

Agreed, this needs to be all-inclusive because Sheldon Brown was all-inclusive. RB's idea of the SA River path is fine and I have the logistics for that figured out. The LAFixed heads are talking about Pasadena. Either way, it's something that would be nice to give a show of respect for a true gentleman who truly deserves it.

I was just thinking Santa Ana so that both orange county and los angeles county could meet in the middle.. and it's a really nice path to ride - free of cars... but it's only a suggestion. hold it wherever, I will roll regardless.

I don't know the Santa Ana path, but I would be willing to make the trek. Also, I think the LA River path could be another possibility, as people could join up and/or stop at different points to eat & drink.

Is the Santa Ana path close to Amtrak/Metrolink?
