Red Light Tickets Vs. DL Points

Do go against your driving record.
I just called the insurance agency I used to work for and got the bad news. I now have a point on my drivers license for a red light ticket I received when I didn't even run a red light. Not only that but because it happened so long ago I can't even take the online course to have it removed. I very vaguely remember calling the agency and asking them about the point situation and also reading it somewhere in these threads that it wouldn't affect me. WRONG. Be advised, if you get a ticket for running a red or even a BUI chances are you will be seeing your DL take a hit.

If you want to be considered traffic, you have to pay the price for breaking the law too! So, be wary how and when you do so!!!

Thats wierd, I got a red light ticket last year and fought it, but the judge never offered me traffic school when I lost. But I have never checked to see if I have a point against my record.

You have to go into the DMV, and I think it costs 5 dollars. I dont know if you can do it online or not.

Or you can call your agent/broker and have them run your DL and keep the $5 in your pocket. Or you can call any insurance provider and ask for a free quote and they'll tell you what's being counted against you on your DL as well.
I called my family's state farm agent and asked for a quote and she told me it came up on my DL. I went 2 days past my 2nd extension (I completely forgot about it) and didn't have the opportunity to continue the process of fighting it (and more than likely winning the damn thing)

thats good to know, also if you have AAA you could try them, they do a lot of DMV related things.

The court is never required to offer you traffic school but you can always ask for it. The court is doing you a favor by offering traffic school because it will keep the point off your license. But if the judge is having a bad day or doesn't like the way you did your hair this morning, they can keep you out of traffic school. It's their prerogative.
It is typically easier to get into traffic school if you plead guilty. It shows that you know you did wrong and want to learn your lesson. If you are fighting the ticket, you are undermining an officer's authority and/or expertise, and you are instantly the enemy of the court.
