YOU THINK THE CELL PHONES WOULD WORK, WITH WHAT WE PAY THEM THIEVES
reply
Yeah, I was about to say "time to change services" when I realized that it wasn't only Verizon that stopped working.
Time to change our fallbacks.

everyone should get a cheap 5 dollar phone that can be plugged into your phoneline at home for emergencies...
all the new cordless phones require plug in power...
but simple old wired phones will run on the current that the phone company provides...

I have both, but I know your cells just stopped working so you're only on lan line

I'm pretty sure the only reason they stopped working is due to over use at the towers in the area. Because everyone is getting or making calls and texts, the towers are overloaded. Happens to my Nextel at sports events and concerts sometimes. I can always use the push-to-talk crap, but the phone feature is useless. Give it a bit.

Overuse of the towers *and* overuse of the telco lines to which the towers connect. So during an emergency or disaster, your communication options in descending order of futility are:
1) Cell phone
2) Hardwired (landline) phone
3) Nextel push-to-talk (runs on its own backbone not connected to telco)
4) Amateur, CB, or GMRS/FRS radio
5) Smoke signals, semaphores, flashing lights, interpretive dance

I've got an old-ass, CB radio in the old Freightliner I'm provided with.
Not exactly the sharpest, but it gets the job done.
Another thing I've considered was a satellite phone, but all they have are prepaid, as opposed to contract/pay monthly options.

What's your handle, and what channel do you monitor?

I got hit by some guy, last week, that was on his cellphone with driving. He was dumb too.

@pc
No particular channel, I always switch around whenever I turn it on.
Why, you keep yours on a specific channel?
If I do use a handle, I'll just go with my username here.
Seems to be useable elsewhere.
