oh my. so much to say on this topic.
unfortunately, these forums favor the boys, and so i wont comment any further.
better to talk in person, I have decided.
the internets also brings out the inner douch-bag in some folks.....

I dunno about this. I've actually been pretty impressed by how many women I see out on the rides. These are the sorts of activities that I am accustomed to seeing fraternal groups of men engage in so when I see so many girls floating among the crowds, I feel a pretty good sense of gender equity. The numbers may not be even, but given the cultural circumstance, they are pretty damn good in my opinion. None the less, I do encourage more women to ride... more men too. More people riding in general!

The gender gap is true even in racing. Consider this statistic, of the 3356 registered racers in SCNCA (Southern California Nevada Cycling Association) only 403 (12%) are women; and 3/4 of them are over age 30.
What do you think causes the disparity?

I, for one, would welcome whatever Ingipet might have to say, even if some of the males around here may not like it. I think that the fact that this thread was started by one of the more "irreverent" members of this forums speaks volumes in itself.
Over the weekend, I rode with a couple girls who genuinely impressed me with their mechanical knowledge of bicycles. A little knowledge goes a long way in making a person feel more comfortable on their own bike.
We're always saying that the best way to encourage people to ride bikes is for them to see us having fun on ours. And what looks more inviting than men AND women riding together? Seeing a bunch of dudes on their bikes, looks like, well, a bunch of dudes. Especially if they're acting like dudes.

sometimes its kinda difficult when some dudes act like misogynist assholes.. and then you get the girls who come out [ esp. to crank mob ] just looking for some new boyfriends.. ive seen a lot more girls riding on their own, not part of any specific ride, then on the rides themselves [ as evident by the ride i was on to the gorilla drive in with 5 women and one dude [ the lucky kieron. ]
they're there.. just not on so many of the big rides maybe?
sometimes i just like doing smaller smaller rides.. as too many dudes freak me out. yet again im a girl freaked out by a lot of things.
