(oh hai! This is KNITTENS's human. I broke into his account while he was cat napping to let you know that his birthday is on 7/27, two days after the ride:
Venice Critical Mass is different from other CM rides. It's different because it's got more spirit and more laughter than any other. For this I blame Knittens and pity all the other bike communities who have a Critical Mass ride but are sorely deficient in the kitteh department.
In honor of Knittens Birthday (a lot of Urth coffee) and, purely for my own entertainment to see if anyone can ACTUALLY do this:
As of the 27th of July, my cat, The Zoe, will have lived 18,126 days. Calculate the difference in age for both “years” and “days” in both “human” and “cat” time, between The Zoe and Knittens.
Info needed to solve question:
The Zoe’s birthday is the 30th of November.
Knittens turns “1” on the 27th of July.
1 human year is equivalent to 7 cat years.
Don’t forget Leap Years.
Keep in mind some months only go to 30 days.
You MUST (hahahaha) show the formula you used in order to receive full credit for your answer. (I remember this from high school -- worst part ever!)
Not possible. A 30 year old person has lived about 10,950 days. So your cat is like 50 years old and is older than you? That would be a huge world record for longest lived cat.
That is not true. You must be a dog person who cats look upon with disdain, for if not, your cat would have alleviated you of your misconceptions by now.
Moreover, supposing Cat's Are From Outer Space:
while their year might be 1/7 of ours, their day could be of similar, or even longer. Off the top of my head, I know Mercury's year is 87.97 Earth days long, but Mercuries day is 58.65 Earth days long.
I thought of all people you would be a bit more faster.. yes, I have taken all of those numbers into considertaion seeing as how it's so important to get the earth numbers down correctly while figuring out the formula that will best get you to the answer.
and I already have the answer.
that's fine.. I will take your formula one step at a time.. go on
So you started by taking your owner cat's age in Earth days - which you figured was 2589 and 3/7 days? How did you figure the 3/7? That's some precision - were you at your cat's birth?
Knittens,
I appreciate your work but we have a score to settle. I don't take kindly to impostures. Meet me at the rings this Friday during VCM and we'll resolve this conflict fair and square.
The Zoe will be 7 years and 241 days old in human years and days on July 27th.
The Zoe will be 49 years and X days old in cat years and days on July 27th.
Difference between the Zoe and Knittens is:
6 years and 241 days = human
42 years and X days = cat
X = days in a cat’s 7 years per every 1 year for a human.
X = A variable (pronounced /ˈveərɪəbl/) is an attribute of a physical or an abstract system which may change its value while it is under observation. Examples include the height of a child, the temperature across a state, THE AGE LIFE OF A CAT IN DAYS or the input to a function.
Done. Master Poster.. I win!!!

Hey guys.. A buddy of mine and I are interested in going on are first ride and I noticed the CM's in Venice and LA are on the same days.. any reason we should head for one versus the other? Thanks.
woooow... Franz, that was blunt but I think it's actually a pretty accurate distinction. Venice CM is a little different than other CM rides. You can read a pretty good description of the last one here
"Hey guys.. A buddy of mine and I are interested in going on are first ride and I noticed the CM's in Venice and LA are on the same days.. any reason we should head for one versus the other? Thanks."
well it looks like we have to choose sides between the two CM rides now... I choose VCM... because it's in my neighborhood and stuff... and because I like the soccer and swinging aspects!
Alright so I crashed really hard before the rings, it was my fault (thankyou paul and andrea for stopping). I'm currently bleeding all over the place at home. After crashing I went to Vlad's place (on 31st) and waited at least an hour, during that hour I called a few people who all assured me they were on their way. I caught up with you assholes on Main st in SM. At that point you left for vlad's, that is when my bb broke, and I fell yet again. It was hurt yet no one was around, I tried to continue, but I fell again on my left side, and walked back to Venice.
I hate everyone, and I hope you feel the pain I felt very soon.
My D200 isn't auto focusing and i need to get it to Nikon. And i'm shooting an Hawaiian/Tahitian dance performance tonight for a friend at El Camino college.
how long will you or someone be there? I'm at pico and sepulveda and was thinking id get it around 5ish if that was okay. And is the battery charged? I have 2 for my d200 but not sure if its different. Its a EN-EL3e
I'm sorry to hear what happened Franz! Coecoe said you weren't returning phone calls. Next time call (310 nine84-1four34, anytime you get lonely sailor ;)) and we will come with assistance, hugs and hot chocolate!
As for us being late, we had to stop to dispose of dangerous explosives and then go to the car wash to wash our bikes, and also buy more beer. That stuff takes time. But it's still no excuse.
shiznitologist and undercoverbob both forgot things at my house (pants and trader joe's bag full of something, respectively). Call me up to arrange to have your stuff returned.
Also, the chance meeting with David(?) at the bike-wash was super-awesome. I love it when things like that happen!
Unfortunately it appears as if the damage is greater, the chain seems to be jammed pretty hard between the spikes and cassette I can't seem to get it out. It appears as if my cassette may be damaged as well as the splines attached to the hub. The chain is also unrepairable. As we all know I love this bike above all others, so fixing it will not be cheap, I think however it's worth repairing rather than getting that apartment I had my eye on, and finally had enough cash to get.
+side my bike is going to be way more blinging with an Ultegra SL crankset. I may also go with a sexier Neuvation wheel if its unrepairable.
I've yet to make a decision so feel free to attempt to dissuade me.
Don't buy expensive ultegra shit = what need do you have for that? Better to save the cash for something you can use - like a more permanent sleeping arrangement.
Also Ultegra's not so bad in price, unfortunately I really wanted that black ultegra crankset for my bike but I just read that it is 100g more than the 9 spd version, which I had and which only cost 80 bucks instead of 200 and I could keep my bb. Unfortunately even I don't think the color black is worth $120 and 100g.
Nono you sell my 9spd Ultegra Crankset is 100g lighter than the Ultegra Sl Crankset. Which is uprising if you think about it in marketing terms however if you just actually look at the two you can tell the 9spd is going to be lighter. 100g for one component is kinda a lot. But than again it is black.
