Agree--the City Attorney and City Council are actually discussing how to better protect cyclists.
In fact, the City Atty's report suggests they are trying to craft specific legislation. It's along the lines of cyclist anti-harassment.

I agree.......the city/ state need to come up with bicycle specific guidelines for travel. The "impeding traffic", "stop sign", and other laws need to be addressed. We are traffic, but we are not a 3500lb chuck of metal going 60mph.

Millions of cars vs. thousands of cyclists.

The best way to stay safe on the road is to learn to ride correctly (i.e. Yield to cars when possible, ride predictably, dont be a fucking dick)
. If you expect police action and city legislation to protect you then you are sorely misguided and will most certainly get hit and spend months suing for justice which will most likely never be delivered (believe me i know.. read the "Hummer incident" thread)
Cyclists need to learn to share the road just as much as cars. Riding around with a sense of entitlement will earn you a broken collarbone and a dentist bill. Grow up and start trying to communicate with drivers the same way you would with a drunk friend.
Q: "Hey pal sorry but you almost hit me could you try to watch for me next time?"
A: Sorry I didn't see you there's not a lot of bikes on this street normally"
End Result: The driver learns a lesson without being dissed by a self righteous cyclist asshole with a u-lock holster.

By the way you guys that constantly brag about pulling your u-lock on cars are absolutely the reason Car v. bike has gotten worse and not better.
