I need volunteers to help with the after party BBQ. namely reserving one of the fire pits. last year was an absolute BLAST thanks to PC who got the spot and Mr. Rollers who organized the slow ride.
4 out 5 of Wolfpack A crossed the line about 5 minutes ahead of everyone. But the 5th member Cole was separated at the start and crossed the line exactly 7 seconds behind Team Dang the all fixed gear team. EPIC. I still chuckle when I think of how pissed Tony Z was! haha and CUBCAMP came in 3rd 30 seconds later. thanks to the video replay.
things to do for this year:
*someone organize a slow ride to the finish line. Mr. Rollers you busy?
*someone reserve a fire pit at Docweiller preferrably on the north most edge of the fire pit area.

karla and i are permanent but the rest of our "team" has been flaking big time. if there are any dedicated girls that want to be a part of our team, i think we are going to do the route again friday in the afternoon sometime. i have a halfday from work and finish at 1.
we rode last night and made pretty awesome timing. the cubcamp boys let us ride for a while until we got dropped at a light. they are fast!
i think shannon is def in our team but she had to get her bike fixed.

I can't stress enough how much we want everyone to RIDE SAFE. DO NOT TAKE RISKS IN TRAFFIC. YOU MIGHT DIE. everyone needs to get to the BBQ safe and sounds and not cause traffic accidents.

we have alternate team members who may or may not be called upon in the event that one of our teammates can't make it in time, breaks down, or suffers injury on the way to the start... which would be pretty much par for the course when it comes to Team Touch. Anyway, my point is that if they aren't urgently needed to jump in and sub for someone, they'll be doing exactly what you mentioned so you won't be alone if you just show up and want to ride the course.

we need a fast mothaphucka! If you are a fast mothaphucka and know it, come to our team. I ride to my moms in rendondo (inglewood n 190th) nonstop from k-town (1st n normandie) in 1hour and 23 minutes. Yesterday our scout ride took 1 hour n 10 today we are going to shave off 10-15 off that time.

The the rider who took out the Bicykillers on the last stretch:
I know that accidents happen, but this could have been prevented. I could understand a sharp turn, a bump in the road, wind, car, a kid..something. You were riding STRAIGHT!! You overlapped the wheel in front of you and then your swirved right into the same wheel. Next time you try to move to the front of a fast moving group, ask yourself, do I know how to ride straight at a fast pace in a tight spot? Not only did you injure two people, you caused alot of damage to our bikes. Not very smart. Dont overlap peoples wheels, especially when you are in a tight group with no brake.

i was to the left of this guy and saw it go down. i swerved left to avoid it all and i was lucky: one that there wasn't another cyclist riding on my left. and two, that there wasn't a car passing us on the left. I have a sort of spidey sense intuition and had that feeling about this guy the whole way. ill admit he is strong and has the endurance but cannot hold his line for sh*t. (sorry dude). i've raced cat 5 and finished top 15. I was top 15 this sunday. I also did long weekend charity rides where peloton style paceline riding occurs and takes form like it did on the race with these talented nohoers. good job guys, good paceline good tour de force. i know what im talking about dude, not trying to sound cocky and neither are these guys. Please also have some kind of responsible visual confirmation that no one is on either side of you before swapping the back wheel you are sucking from, PLEEAZE, take your eyes and head into a 45 degree turn and use your peripheral vision for the sake of everyone. and if taking your eyes of the road screws with your balance then dont ride in a pack until you master that weakness, again for the sake of everyone riding with you in those tight spots. I saw this dude make those neglegent and irresponsible moves throughout the race and that was an accident waiting to be happen. so i had a hunch... and now i ask myself was it a hunch or was it dead obvious and eminent?

I can attest to the carnage. When Lee and I rolled up to the Bicykillers, they did not look good; damaged bikes, damaged wheels and a lot of blood. There is an inherent risk of injury when racing but when it is caused by someone's ignorance, it make it hard to accept.

I think there is a need to identify the guy but not to humiliate him. Someone needs to talk to this guy and make him aware of what he did. I've talked to a lot of people that ride erratically in group rides and most of them do not have a clue that they are dangerous. I can almost guarantee that the rider, that cause the accident, will read this post and think it is someone else.
Many equate a strong rider as a experience rider.. But that is not true especially in this community, most have less than a year. Most of it is social riding, where group riding protocols and courtesies are ignored.

exactly: when i began riding in group rides i started doing what i had seen over and over again in the tour de france and live racing. and when i got on the field i learned quickly that despite the competiveness a protocol and courtesy is kept a priority before anything, before slingshoting and changing positions. the courtesy is cutting in there is the room and cooperation some teams will close the gap on you to keep their team together that's cool that's when you look for the next spot and ride on, you cautiously slingshot around the entire team later as payback later in the race (but you do it safely and when you got the power to do it). There is a rivalry and symbionic rhythm and energy out there in these group rides and it is a balance that allows everyone to get through the course at great speed and safety before racing each other to the finish in the last stretches of the course. train your line, practice on those big white lines, i.e. solid lane dividers and the bike lane white line divider. I still do this as disciplinary training. on some group rides when safe and traffic is almost non existant i practice between the 2 yellow lines in the center of the road (don't try that - that's just GOpez crazy!) and train your peripheral vision - you'll learn to use it properly and when you do you'll be able to use this feature of your eyes on both eyes and sorta keep an eye in front of you and to the side of you. blurry faint versions enough to detect a change in space and a movement. train it use it. good luck.

and don't cut off cars that are surrounded by the group. give them an exit forward. don't follow cars so close that you cant escape if they were to suddenly brake.

geeesh!!! i see i really upset you dude. you were still angry at me at the end of the ride. I may a pact and promise not to act like the defensive and aggressive wolf in the pact. i will learn to coexist with cars and be pacifistic even when they show aggression....GGGRRRRRRRROOOOOAARRR!!! okay i let it out.
Don, i know what incidents you speak of too.
1. the driver pulling into the left lane with us. there were bikers ahead and a few behind him. he was on neutral and reving his rpms and felt i needed to jump infront of him to discourage that behaviour, i was only focused on the danger of him slipping into gear and plowing ahead... my bad in doing so in a defensive way and not thinking about the rear section behind the truck. good point and point taken.
2. as we were approaching tang's down sunset i used that jeep cherokee to draft closer to the breakaway group and got fairly closer thanks to the aid of that car. that is a crazy habit i have, taking advantage of drivers. the upside to that is that i didn't sense any ill vibe in that driver and was pacing and feathering my brakes when i was behind her. i know it looks scary, but i'll tell you what. i won't do it on the rides anymore. i'll draft on my own time when im riding solo that way it will only look as though im only endangering myself. also a good point and point taken.

Eddie I wasn't coming down on you personally so much as putting out some observations. the situation from monday was one I've seen on many rides many times and I wasnt mad I just wanted to let you know that your riding was very dangerous to the pack. I'm sorry if you were offended but sometimes we have to look out for the whole. sure, maybe the guy was reving his engine, but I dont get the logic of cutting in front of the guy suddenly to teach him a lesson??
Sunday there was a crash of the EXACT same scenario and it would be good to let everyone know just how dangerous it is when you cut a car off in a group ride. any way, from what I hear Wayne the Briain was a victim on Sunday of someone suddenly cutting in front of a car. Wayne was apparently riding close behind the car and the person who cut off the car caused the driver to slam on his breaks (not hard to predict that would happen as a result) which caused Wayne to rear end the guy full on and beak his collar bone among other injuries. he went to the hospital. dude who cut off the car probably didnt even know what happened as a result.
I saw the exact same scenario play out on venice blvd. for which luckily the riders behind the suv were able to swerve and avoid the braking vehicle.
this all happens during the ebb and flow of traffic and it's just courtesy to the other riders and to the car driver to allow an escape route somehow. drivers can easily panic and they do....

the car has no escape route and will often panic or become irrate. either way, and no matter if we think he desrves to be taught a lesson, people will be in danger.

having that happen on groups rides is bad enough but to have it happen on a fast paced ride where people are travelling at 25-30mph.... not good. just sayin....

wait... im not offended. and that growl was because i was thinking of that driver jerk and other driver jerks out there.
not offended, i was owning up to those actions and recognizing them dangerous and innappropiate. thanks for making those observations Don. no worries bro.
as for wayne, the way the accident happened is somewhat true, he swerved right and changed his mind of passing on the right and proceeded to a left swerve to pass on the left and he was almost clearing the car when he caught the left corner rear of the rear bumper and body of the car with his bars and he went down. he does not have a broken collar bone. i was just on the phone discussing that with him. he thinks it's hillarious that you guys think he's got this sever injury. he's fine, just banged up but his bike was pretty messed up. he'll be posting that he's fine soon. he told me so.

I never called eddie out by name on these threads AND Eddie and I had a talk about it on the ride personally. Eddie responded because he knew it was in part about him but he didnt have to. since he did, I responded back to him.
I guess it could be construed as a double standard but technically they were two different types of posts. one was personal and one was general.
EDIT also, it was around the time that everyone wanted the AOTW thread taken down. I'm on the fence about those threads. I think people should be called out for their abusive behaviour, but then others feel that it should be handled personally.... it's hard to say what is better. I just didnt want the forums getting all negative. I dont really feel like I was talking shit in my posts as you say. I was offering up what I feel is a common danger on the rides.

Eddie pulled his maneuver on purpose as he stated.... again, I didnt name names to begin with.... I was putting it out there for people to understand the consequences of this repeated scenario.... I do feel for you about the drunken rider situation. I think you should have a talk with dude and let him know it was fucked up. I'm beginning to hate that drinking and cycling are so closely associated with each other... :(

An observation I made while following the pack in my car Monday. I do not know who the people are cause if I did I would have talk to them personally. But here is what I saw:
While on Sunset towards downtown, the pack was taking both lanes on traffic (nothing really wrong with that). But here is where it get dangerous, the cars are starting to pile behind the pack waiting for the a lane to clear. Someone calls 'car back' or something and the left lane clears. As the cars start going to the left lane to pass, someone darts into the left lane without looking back. This happened at least 5 times, down Sunset, Glendale and probably the closest call was on Washington.
On Washington a car almost took out a big chunk of the pack. Same scenario there were about 6 cars behind you. The cars trying to find an opportunity to pass. The left lane clears, a car darts for the opening, someone cuts him off. Car hits brakes, the 3rd car was caught inattentive and swerves to avoid hitting the car in front of him. I happen to see everything and gave the car enough room to get in front of me. But know the driver is irate and blows by you guys.
Here is a solution, call 'car back'. On multiple lane roads give up a lane, move to the right lane. At the time of night we ride, traffic comes in waves. It just takes a few seconds to move to the right lane, let the cars past and take a many lanes as you need.

let me also add,sometimes its hard to find people on rides.
posting gripes is more immedate and effective.
take the stealing on crank mob as one example.delt with on the forum and in person.now not really an issue.
if i see tern again i will ask him to politely to leave me alone.
easy,yes.but it still dosent fix my bike,or heal me or dingo.
at least mabey he will understand what he did and not do them again in the future.
which,in essence,is what you are doing on this thread.
by the way i was the guy who bought you the corona on sunday.
so at least you can put a face to this rant.

Sounds like a great idea. I snapped a carbon bar and my rear wheel is jacked. Where should I send the bill? Oh ya..and my friend has gashes in his new carbon frame along with scraped up components. Not to mention all his clothing is bloody and torn.
