Sweatheart Ride - Rancho to LA
Saturday December 29th, 8:30 am
Ok, so we tried this once before from LA to Rancho, now we're going to do the reverse route. For most of us it was the farthest and longest we had ever ridden. It took us about 4.5 hours with an average speed of 12 MPH to do the 50 miles. So it's not at all a fast ride, just a constant, steady pace.
If you want to increase your mileage, if you're trying to get ready for something big like a century, if want to push yourself without killing yourself in the process, or if you want to squeeze in one more ride before the end of the year, this ride is for you. That's not to discourage all you hustlers, just know it will be a chill ride. We'll take breaks here and there. No rider left behind.
Riders from LA: The Metrolink train departs Union Station at 7 am and arrives at Rancho Cucamonga station at 8:07 am. Each car has designated areas to secure your bikes. It's set up for two bikes but you can fit 3-4 depending on the size of the bikes. If there's not enough space in the designated area, as long as you hold on to it and keep it out of the aisles, you'll be fine. We haven't had any problems with extra bikes in the past. The train conductors are usually pretty good about it.
One-way tickets for the Metrolink are $6.50.
Eastenders: Meet at the Rancho Cucamonga Metrolink station (11208 Azusa Court) at 8:15 am. We ride at 8:30 am.
Make sure your bike is in good working order. Bring the basics for bike repair (tubes, pumps, patch kit, etc), snacks and water. Once we get to LA we'll get some grub so bring some cash and a lock.
Eastenders: If you're hardcore, feel free to ride the route back to Rancho. We will be taking the Metrolink train back. Check here for the return schedule: http://www.metrolinktrains.com/schedules/html.php?id=361
The last train out of LA leaves at 11:30 pm.
RAIN CANCELS THE RIDE.

So who else is down for this ride? The LA to Rancho version was fun and this one should be slightly easier as it will be more downhill.

"In a harrowing liebestod which is the climax and centerpiece of the film, the Guests, locked in an embrace and breathing through blowhole-like orifices on the back of their necks, take out flensing knives and cut away each other's feet and thighs. The remains of their lower body are revealed to contain traces of whale tails at an early stage of development, suggesting rebirth, physical transformation, and the possibility of new forms."
isn't love just like that?
it's from drawing restraint 9. a film by matthew ("The Cremaster Cycle") barney featuring his partner bjork.

The ride happened in Hill Valley. The weather was really nice until we got near the clock tower. You should have been there. I wore my orange vest.

Yup I was talking about the one coming up this Saturday - not the ride from last year. Can I do this on a hybrid or is it just for roadies/fixies?

Which Metrolink train are you guys taking to RC?
This is hella early for me, but I think I'd like to try to make it.
If any Westsiders want to roll, I can carry an extra bike or 2 and we could split parking costs at Union Station for the day.
God, this is early. So not a morning person.

What is the terrain like for this ride? Or more specifically, is this a flat ride or are there any serious hills?

There's a map on the ride post page. Looks like it's all downhill after mile 10. Trust me, I wouldn't be going if it were some crazy hill ride.

Ivana,
Just wanted to thank you for a great day of fixing flats! I'm kidding. I really enjoyed meeting everyone and loved the route. Hope everyone finished the ride safely and enjoyed Senor Fish. We went over to Philippe's and wolfed down some French Dip sandwiches.
Thanks again!
