What was that supposed to be, a demonstration of how NOT to ride a bike? On the sidewalk, against the flow of traffic (not that I saw any), through pedestrian areas, etc.
Or maybe it represents some kind of future Utopia: no cars terrorizing cyclists, giant subway cars that accommodate bikes.
OK, whatever . . . I'm half drunk . . .

Thanks for trying, though. More positive images of cycling for sure.

well I give it an A+!!!
I just saw this on t.v. and it made me happy.
(After all, it's not an instruction video on how to ride a bike, just something that communicates the bliss of riding, and doing something healthy and good. I think it gets the point across quite well.)

Good point, but in the age of YouTube pause and screen caps the details have to be right!

It's the
Ferry Point Tunnel which connects Point Richmond with Ferry Point in Richmond, CA.
@mr. rollers
I was thinking the same thing. I was like... hmm... sidewalks? Then on the street but it was like in the middle of the street.
@canadienne
Totally agree with you... it definitely was nice to watch. I like the basket and tree. And it's good to see this kind of commercial oppose to that state farm ad a while back.

well fine, if we ARE gonna get technical, at least give them this: Only the old man, the girl he passes his bike to, and the child are the ones on the sidewalk. Everyone else is on the road. AND since they're trying to appeal to the greater public, I can understand why they'd show that option. WE know it's not the safest, but even my adult coworkers express that their greatest hesitation about riding has to do with safety on the road, and fear of motorists. They're just trying to make cycling look as appealing as they can. If everyone was shown on a road, dodging potholes and doors, with lots of traffic zooming by, the ad wouldn't have quite so much appeal, no? Sometimes you have to sacrifice realism. Ads are about fantasy not accuracy.

Yah, excuse my cynicism Liz; it IS a nice commercial with folks riding bikes in a happy way - all good.
Perhaps my gemerally negative experiences with the Kaiser health care system have colored my views a little.

hrm... yeah for the longest time I had no idea what Kaiser was... cuz the commercials never really say... and I'm from Canada, where health care is brandless.
