So, I hear from a lot of dudes that they think most girls only ride because their boyfriends ride! What do you think about this? Do you think this is true for the most part? I started riding before I even met my current boyfriend now!
If anything, I think there needs to be far more girl riders. I'm usually always the only girl at our ride on Sunday nites, hahaha.

Yeah, there are more guys than girls on rides. Oh well. Personally, I'd rather it be that than have a bunch of girls who complain about sweating and peeing in the bushes, etc, etc.
Also, what your dudes say is pretty incorrect. I only know of ONE girl who started riding because of her boyfriend.

i know of at least two girl riders who started riding because of their boyfriends... but i don't think 2 is enough to say that most girl riders only started riding because of their boyfriends! so i don't know what my friends are talking about, haha.

I actually do feel uncomfortable riding with only guys sometimes! No one to cover me when I have to go pee in the bushes, so I usually hold it in, lol. What? Bladder infection? WTF is that! And plus, fools be vultures nowadays... Hahahaha, just cuz I'm the only girl on the ride, doesn't mean you have to be hitting on me!

I met my boy friend after seven months of riding, and we met because of bikes. We are actually going to start planning couples ride, so if there is any one interested in riding with their boy friend or girl friend who is a ridaa, or you want to get your significant other who is not into bikes, into them, then look out for couples ride which is going to be coming this summer ! The only rule is you must come with a date, because it will include partner games, drive in (or rather bike in) movies, and picnic dinners in the park. :)

Also, whenever I so happen to make it to a ride, which is not often at all, I am always shocked and amazed and proud at the amount of women out there holding it down. So you guys are trippin...last lacm I went to seemed pretty even to me.
Additionally, if these "dudes" are your friends, they will gladly block you when you pee. You just have to ask. They can turn your back to you. I'm sure they will do it for you, if only to have the chance to be within a foot of a woman with her pants half way down.
Gender stereotypes are never going to go away if WE WOMEN don't stop perpetuating them. If a guy starts questioning something pertaining to your gender, RETURN THE FAVOR.

i have the exact same story! and i met the guy i'm with now through riding... he saw me riding down venice blvd. and he slowed down for me to catch up but then he left. so i rode after him and i saw him go into geo's bike shop and that's pretty much how we met. :]

There will always be more guys around us but who cares. the guys that complain about the lack of girls probably don't appreciate the ones that are already around enough anyway, or if you are into us and your not getting the responses you want, i guarantee "more girls" isn't going to fulfill your search for female attention. guys shouldn't come on the rides looking for that anyway. no one should. ride to ride, eat your bike out.

^^^ I've gotten a bunch of dudes riding. Usually because I worked with them, not because we were dating. (Once or twice, I went out with a non-rida ((WHAT?)) and got them interested in riding.) I think I shamed the co-workers into it; "SHE rides to work. I could do that."
One co-worker/future rider once said that seeing me bike in through the front door of our tiny office, tear off my helmet, beeline for the bathroom, then emerge all dewey from a cold-water splash in the sink was a good way to start the day. I told him a better way to start the day was with a solid ride.
Two weeks, it took him. Not bad.

I can't fucking stand this thread, though. It is a perfect example of the sexist society that we live in. And the amazing thing is that its the women who seem to be the most sexist of all. This is shown in this very thread by not only the initial post, but in several other comments left by girls. Also, I don't think the author of this thread realizes that it stopped being unique for women to ride bikes by the end of the 80s. Women riders are fucking everywhere. and they kick ass, too. more than those pussies that have penises do, that's for sure!

My intention wasn't for it to sound sexist at all. Although I'll admit it came off that way. I just wanted to know how a lot of people thought about riders thinking it's so crazy for girls to ride nowadays. It's nothing new, obviously, I would just love to hang out with more girls at rides for a change.

It's not so much you being sexist as it is the people who put the idea in your head. You were just a victim of it without realizing it as many of us are because it is so ingrained in our society. Once you become wise to it, you see how it is everywhere. It's kind of like how people can say things completely innocently without even realizing that what they are saying is racist.
Let me tell you, anyone who thinks it is crazy for girls to ride nowadays has obviously not been riding very long. Next time some moron comes at you with BS like this, just say, "shows how much YOU know!" and ride off laughing, knowing that they are full of shit.
Also, try going to different rides. Female to male ratio varies from ride to ride... go on the right one and you'll see plenty of us women out there holding it down. This way you can make more cyclista friends to bring to your own favorite rides.

My girlfriend got me into riding. I think it's very empowering to women. If youre getting hit on, you can just ride away.
Also I've seen a couple of girls who come to crank mob with the sole intention of hooking up. What can I say, its a buyer's market!
