If the midnigt ridazz were responsible for the careening dangerous young kids screaming down San Vicente Blvd in Brentwood Tuesday 7/14/2009, at 10:30pm then your group is not living up to any provisions set down here. Young kids without helmets, or lights riding left lane, weaving in and out of left lane taking up intersection with cars trying to make turns or just proceed. Not obeying any traffic rules, then name calling when a right turn was attempted and all lanes blocked, so horn honking ensued.
I especially disliked the speeding down 7th to Channel Isl Blvd, without lights, and of course, no helmets. The lack of street lights coupled with no lights on many, many bikes made it impossible to see many riders especially with humid salt residue settling on windshield and windows and riders weaving in and out of multiple lanes.
I called the police they said it was your group. I ride a bike also, but last night's display was beyond stupid and dangerous. And, the police dispatcher was unfazed, believing, I guess that I over reacted. And she will be until someone is badly injured.

but please dont think that we are ALL like this.
it was probably just a new group of idiots who are new on their bikes feeding off the new thrill that is acting like a bunch of doofs.
eventually they will get bored of it and their bikes will return to their garage, mangled and converted, or back on craigslist where it was found.
they'll be out of your hair in no time.

both of them blew up like crazy.
both of them are slowly dying out.
but only the ones who were truly having fun are still doing it.
when i go skate now, i dont see anymore little kids.
i see dudes who are my age that are getting back into it. that remembered how fun it was.

I wasn't with the ride while during that phase (stopped to help some people with flats as we rolled out of Ralphs, were still trying to find the group when they were at the streets she mentioned) so I don't know if it was normal behavior or not.
I find it interesting that a call to the police about dangerous cyclists gets a person pointed to MR.com.

dude you are one negative mofo Kims I gotta hand it to you.... and to say that fixed gear riding is going by way of bmx and skateboarding is giving it a complement. skateboarding and bmx both have their fluctuations in popularity - about 7 year cycles.... however the trend line for both of those sports is a steady rise over decades and decades... I hope that the same trend line occurs for fixed gear ridering. the more bicycles in the streets the better. jeeez try not to forget what it's like to be young and excited about something! at least these kids are out riding bicycles getting exersize and not rotting their bodies behind a video game console.
if you look at the calendar, taco tuesdays the OJ ride was likely the ride this lady is referring to. Now I know Xlarge runs a good ship and a very responsible ride so I imagines this lady is exaggerating to a large degree.... probably just bummed that actual people were riding through her exclusive area.... yay people!

True dat. There are very few people who do TT sans lights, and they couldnt have been that hard to see. If they were actually being unruly, I'll just have to assume it was Venice Chill Ride. The Westside is full of rich people who need to calm down and share their little slice of aristocracy with the rest of us.

Likely this was Taco Tuesdays. And likely this woman isn't exaggerating, she is lying. Most people on TT have lights, and a number of them wear helmets, so she needs to get her vision checked.
Mike, I'm sure you mean well, but howabout when it comes to matters of the Westside, you keep your thoughts to yourself? We don't need you to authoritatively confirm this NIMBY resident's delusions - she's doing quite well on her own. This is a West LA matter, and people who actually live and ride here know that parameters of the scene. For example, many of us know - as RB noted - that TT was doing the OJ route on Tuesday night, and that this puts them in Brentwood around that time.
And you can refrain from calling Westsidazz dummies on the basis of unproven allegations of non Ridazz, thanks.

It was TT almost definitely as the route went through that area at that time. From what I saw earlier in the ride it was probably accurate. I was separated while they were on this portion like I said and was trying to catch up with a group of about 6-7. I was the only front light amongst that small group.
It seemed well run and organized and XL was doing a good job...but there were a lot of people racing by using the opposing traffic lane (and most of them weren't front lighted).

yeah, KIMS1. i understand that most of what you know comes from what happens on the boards. if that was all i knew about TT, i'd probably come to some incorrect conclusions too. it's one thing if you want to hijack the TT thread. TT people may talk more about what happens on the rides because there is a lot going on, both positive and negative.
when it comes to people complaining about ridazz and rides, i have to agree with AT. it's not helpful to make statements based on assumptions. try a TT and you'll see, you've got it all wrong. until then, don't speak for rides that you dont go on.

Unless you want to be grouped in with every driver on the rode. and share blame for what they might do against pedestrians or cyclists. Please dont assume we are one singeled minded group. everyone is responsible for there own safty. please blame them and not the entire bikeing community. or atleast go on the forms and learn the general consensus for you self

No, you do not have that knowledge. You have hearsay. You're taking her at her word, when there is no reason to assume that it is true. If you were in court and testified that "there was a group riding without lights" then your testimony on that topic would be thrown out as hearsay, as you are simply repeating what you heard.
Moreover, the whole bit is suspect, as many riders on both VCR and TT have lights, so there is next to no chance that it was a large group entirely without lights, which is what this woman is saying. Likely there were lights in the group, which means she is at least exaggerating, if not flat lying.
The other thing you don't know is W Channel road. Go check it out, and you'll get a sense of perspective.
Are you the MR appointed spokesperson? If not, then why not stick to things you know, or at least have the knowledge to speculate about.

yes, my assumption was based what a person saw and said about whoever that was riding.
what about all the other things that are said on this forum?
this is a touchy subject but what about the shooting that occurred where J-RO got shot in the back.
i assumed that the things people have said were correct.
but by the logic you brought up, why should i believe anything ridazz have said about the shooting?
for all i know, J-RO could have shouted out obscenities at that party or something.

I doubt anyone would go through the trouble of calling the cops and doing whatever it was she was doing to finally end up here on this forum.. something must have spooked her for real. and that sucks that now she will forever have a negative view. exaggerate is a probably a safe word to use. at the end of the day she called the cops to report some assholes on bikes. I mean is it worth wasting the cops time?
