while the energy used to manufacture photovoltaics is substantial, i think we can all agree it is a step in the right direction; They always EVENTUALLY pay off their energy costs anyways. and - this is an obstacle that will soon be overcome by thin film tech - so dont rag on solar panels.
having said that - the thing in that first post looks retarded

yeah, it really doesn't make sense to put panels on any vehicle except maybe a refrigerated truck trailer. far more efficient in several ways to just put them on a roof and use that energy to charge your batteries.

if you're a vegetarian and you ride a bike, then you are an indirect solar powered bike motor. I guess i should become a vegetarian then, i'm still stuck on eating fossil fuels. dinosaurs are tasty :(
