Help a Fellow Rider

Hi! First of all I'd like to thank you for taking the time to read the thread and perhaps help a rider out.
So here's my situation, I just bought a frame this afternoon. I've been jumping from shop to shop in search of a wheel set. Only thing is that the prices at shops range from 175.00 to 230.00, which is out of my budget.
And I was hoping, that just maybe someone on the MR network could lend me a helping hand or sell me a set at a reasonable price. I was informed by a mentor of mine, that I should get 700x25c (23c) and the cog 13,14 or 15. If you or anyone you know has a set available, please contact me as quickly as possible. 323.557.0642

BUY just the rear wheel now, u can get a cheapo front one from the kitchen for less until u can afford a better one. 48x18 is the best gearing for street me thinx- google junkyrustybikes or craigslist for cheap wheels

Try the guy on craigslist selling fixie wheelsets. He sells Vuelta Airline 4 wheelsets in multiple colors for $155 a set (with cog and lockring), and 46 or 48 tooth cranksets for $50. He's out in San Gabriel or El Monte or something, but $205 is a pretty good deal for a built deep V wheelset and a crank.
Spend a little extra $ at the outset and build it up right to have something that will make you happy. Otherwise, you'll spend a little cash to build it up half-assed, and then more cash to redo it right, which is more expensive than just building it right the first time.
If you keep your eye out for deals online and make sure the bike shops match their online prices, you can do it pretty cost effectively.
What kind of frame did you get?

the best all around street gear for los angeles is 46x17. i have a 46 tooth chainring for sale, 144 bcd. $30.

it stands for BOLT CIRCLE DIAMETER. the chainring will only fit on 144 bcd cranksets, aka track cranks. if you try to put this on the cranks on your road bike it will not fit. the teeth are spaced wide for a 1/8th track/bmx chain and not a 3/32nd road chain. confusing, isnt it?

Quick Question: The wider its spaced. the more "potential" power I have. Or less?
If my question is completely ignorant, please allow me to learn the benefits of a BCD.

it doesnt necessarily have anything to do with power, i dont think. but ive always been under the impression that the thicker chains are stronger if youre riding brakeless fixed. i mean, you dont want to snap your chain while youre trying to lock your legs up going down grand into dtla.
all the legit track stuff (aka stuff thats used on the velodrome by the pros) is 144. the fixed gears marketed to the commuter or what have you are all 130.

So how exactly would I know if I have a bcd already?

you mean how do you find out what bcd your cranks are currently? search the internet / ask someone at a bike shop / post your components here and i might be able to tell you.

I believe its a 114. After looking at the diagram above.

my limited internet research for "maxy crank bcd" leads me to believe that they are 110.
