A woman in her 60s died this morning after being hit by a teenage bicyclist in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles police said.
The woman was crossing the street in the 600 block of Palisades Drive just north of Sunset Boulevard shortly before 7 a.m. when she was hit by the 16-year-old boy riding his bicycle.
The boy, a student at Palisades High School, was on his way to band practice when the accident occurred, said Lt. Kat Thomas of the Los Angeles Police Department's West L.A. division.
"He's just devastated," Thomas said of the boy, who sustained cuts and bruises.
It was not immediately known how fast the boy was traveling, but it was still dark outside when the accident occurred. Authorities also did not know if the woman suffered fatal injuries when she was struck or when she fell to the ground.
The woman, who was not immediately identified pending notification of her family, was pronounced dead at the scene. LAPD asks anyone with information to call its West L.A. traffic division at (213) 473-0222.

This is a horrific accident, for sure.
What's going to be almost as painful is the chorus of idiotic reactions from anti-bike know-nothing bloggers.

Yeah, it's pretty funny when people get hit and killed.
Everybody should just skip walking and riding and get in their cars and drive everywhere, because when you've got an SUV, just about everything's a speed bump.

Hey guys why all the partisan bullshit? It's not Bikes vs. Cars... or Cars vs. Pedestrians. Its everyone for themselves. The street is a dangerous place to be and it can kill you whether you are in a car, on a bike or just walking across. There's tons of terrible cyclists and tons of terrible drivers, its the law of averages that a large portion of them are not paying attention when they drive/ride/walk.
When you are in L.A. traffic, whether on foot, on bike or in your car... always act as if you are surrounded by unpredictable and horribly inattentive people. You'll avoid accidents and get to your destination much happier.
I don't see the point in placing blame on one group of people just because they drive cars. Some people just don't pay attention in their cars or on their bikes.
You have to be looking out for them all the time or you are just gambling that you will never get hot from behind or have one of them clip your fornt wheel on a fun ride.
