the only problem with root run i have is the 30 mile ride back home over the hollywood hills after riding 40+ at super fast pace.
and still finding it enough to get up for work the next morning.
i rode hard alone yesterday and when i got up today, i had no feeling in my legs. i had to drag myself to the bathroom where i started to regain some circulation.
sheli, i'll have your lock tonight!

@ Frozen Fingers
+2 for Taco Tuesdays and ROOT RUN.
@ tomato
We'd love to see you at ROOT RUN this week. The Palos Verdes Hills ought to wake your legs up right quick. It's a good ride if you want to improve your speed and endurance. Frozen Fingers can verify that ROOT RUNners tend to be in sweat-free car-pacing condition after a few rides.
@ ijunes
We'll have to come up with a transportation solution for you so you can come to ROOT RUN without worrying about the ride back. Maybe there are some more valley peeps who might want to drive out and drive back? Either way, we could use your legs out there.

thanks for all the suggestions but i do want to stay on the westside tonight.
plus i want to try cubcamp week 2 on thurs.
tracy said root run is rediculously fast and i have a hard time keeping up with her so it's not an option for me. i have athsma when i go fast for a long period and hills kill me. if i get dropped i'll panic.
sigh. i am limited in my options. i wish goga wasn't cancelled.

i actually cant verify what undercover bob said because ive never actually gone on ROOT RUN but only heard lots and lots from fwends and such.

@ijunes, I work in the Valley so if you wanted to cut out at least part of the commute, I could bring you to the Westside for Root Run in my truck. It still leaves you with the problem of getting home tho...

you can too verify! I was cruising next to that convertible and chatting with you last night without breaking a sweat!

i work in DTLA, so i can get to root run.
i might have to find a day when i can crash out there on the westside and not face any repercussions.

when i start to push 20 i start to die. dending on the road i can go 22, but i soon start to suffocate.
i wish i was able to go faster, but i haven't ridden very much the last few weeks. =( i am trying.

Pump some albuterol right before you start riding, that shit will last for 6 hours.
Also lighten your bag or ditch it all together

And Tiffany- I'm kind of in the same boat with you.
I tried to keep up with UCB on the way home from Los Angelopes this Saturday, what started out as a very slow chill ride down Pico became semi ROOTING and then some all out
ROOTING when we were trying to slingshot the roller hills.
I about died on a few of em, but the sense of accomplishment was great.
UCB made me wish I had gears or at least a 52 x 16 gear ratio.

there's nothing scarier than a full-blown asthma attack in the middle of ROOT RUN... at least that's how it felt the first time. Now I've figured out to just stop eddie-merxing it at that point and draft thestolba 'til I can breath. He pushes so much wind that I can just coast while he pulls me along until my lungs open up again

my inhaler doesn't do much for me. goga is tough enough.
bah i don't want to sound like a quitter before i even try, but even the last cubcamp week 2 killed me. hopefully this week they go easier on me.

@Tomato, hit me up tomorrow and I'll have a better idea of what my work sked is like, but maybe we can do a long GOGA paced ride Thursday night? I want to scout a ROOT to Suicide Bridge in Pas, but we can take it slow up the hills. I'm thinking it'll be around 45 miles...

Tomato, I'm curious. Do you just have a rescue inhaler (albuterol), or do you also use a steroid inhaler to treat the asthma iself rather than simply the symptoms? The reason I ask is that many general practice docs will simply give you a rescue inhaler, which will shut down an attack, but don't prescribe a real treatment (which does nothing when you are in the middle of an attack). I started on a steroid inhaler treatment 10-15 years ago and my asthma is effectively gone. My rescue inhaler is, quite literally, 10 years old. I'd be afraid if I need it, because the albuterol inside has surely converted into soe toxic lung poison by now. And it isn't simply that the asthma has gone away. If I stop the treatments, I'll start having symptoms again within 48 hours. Getting on the right drugs was, quite literally, a life changing event for me. If you are blowing up with an asthma attack in the middle of rides, your asthma is either MUCH worse than mine or you only have rescue drugs. I've known a few other asthmatics with the same experience as mine - a complete cessation of any symptoms of asthma, even exercise or stress induced symptoms.
And while I'd normally be willing to get out and ride with you tonight, my knee has been acting up and I'm afraid of damaging it, so I'm off the bike except for my commute until I figure out what is wrong.

hmm thanks sam. i don't get attacks but i definitely have trouble breathing during really strenuous exercise- and it's not because i'm out of shape. it gets better as i get better but if i push too hard, i have to stop if i want to catch my breath again- and it takes a while. i sound weak i know, but i know there are some rides i am not capable of keeping up with. maybe in the future =). plus if they blow through major lights (not sure if root run does), i don't feel comfortable since getting hit by a car in feb. i don't want to risk my life on a ride. again i don't know which rides do, but i hear wolfpack does.

wait- it's not that i can't, it's that i weigh 40 pounds too much. i bet if i lost weight i could be fast. but it's not a priority at the moment. i can't deny myself food.
doesn't look like i'm finding anyone to ride with tonight.
i may do taco tuesdays- besides, it's super dry and hot outside. taco tuesdays sounds fun.

doesn't rule #3 of rootrun conflict with the other 2 rules?
if you get pulled into a slipstream, and you're edging towards someone's wheel, do you overpower them or ummm do you press the brakes to STOP it from happening.
flawed logic....

Brett's mom has a tendency to suffocate everyone and everything that breathes with her mountainous mounds of flesh... The fact that you are wheezing is no surprise considering that little knowledge nugget!
