pasadena ridazz?

I just got a job in Glendale, but I'm thinking about moving up to Pasadena or elsewhere closer to the Angeles Crest. I need a yard and a garage. I'd like to do more mountain biking and I'd like to have easier access to places to hike with the pups. I can't get all of that in my price range without moving up to Pasadena or similar
I don't want to give up bicycle commuting. One place I'm looking at is 14 miles door to door, which is something of an ideal distance. What I'm unsure of is just how easy it'll be to deal with the elevation gain. Anyone have knowledge of what a commute fom Glendale to East Pasadena might be like?
Am I nuts for considering moving to the back of beyond? I like being in an urban area, but don't take advantage of it enough to make it worth paying the housing prices.
I'm just looking for random feedback from others that may live out there.

Highland Park is blowing up! I have a two bedroom house, hardwood floors, fireplace, unattached garage, music studio, patio, front and back garden, and laundry room for $1400/mo. I ride Angeles Crest regularly, and love the neighborhood in general.

i live in east pasadena, and the ride from your new job to east pas wouldnt be too bad, you'll hit some good climbs, and rollers along the way, but nothing impossible or incredibly challenging.

i spent a year riding between la canada and pasadena and i really miss it. pasadena is a nice city to ride in.
i will say, however, that riding home from downtown l.a. tired, sore, and drunk, can be a bit taxing. take away the drunk, maybe not so much?

it was a false alarm. We stopped at a place in Highland Park that I thought had no potential on the way to checking out the house in east pas and the Highland Park house was amazing. Assuming we get it, that'll be our new home!!!

So does Burbank. Too many cops here, and they're all bored.
