ive been getting blown up by ALC to do the ride.
i would be down
but
i only have a track bike.
I heard that there was some beast that did it on a fixed last ALC.
who was this person?
if this certain is reading this right now,
how tough was it?
what kind of elevation changes are you dealing with?
would you be down to do it again on ur fixed or would you try with all ur might to attain a geared bike?
can you talk me into doing it on my track bike?
reply

a lot have people have done it fixed. you can too! just don't pick a high gear because with that amount of miles, spinning is your BFF
Also, it's their rules that you MUST have a brake.
People have also done it on Tall Bikes

Kim, they (ALC) have great (fucking) high end road bikes that they loan out. Drew and Danny used borrowed bikes on several days. Last year there were 2 or 3 fixed gear riders who did fine. You can also easily just switch out cogs depending on what kind of day is planned.
Bottom line, if you train with Team MR on your track bike, you'll be fine on the ride. Our training days were easily twice as hard as any day on ALC 7.

Riding a fixed-gear bike with road-ish geometry seems fine, if you've got the legs. Riding a stiff, twitchy true track bike with low handlebars sounds like torture to me.
I don't know that it's the drivetrain that's issue so much as how comfortable the bike is overall.
