Halloween night 8:45 p.m.:
I come back from trick or treating with a few of my friends, towards my gfs house (in Echo Park) and suddenly I hear a loud pop. I walk closer and I see the sihouette of a guy carrying a bicycle my bicycle. My friends and I run after him. Into his house (My girfriends neighbor) we kinda corner him. And I ask him what he's doing. I tell him that the bicycle he's stealing is mine. And some stupid, ignorant gangster kid answers "My bad, It's the hood you know how it is, shit happens". I take my bicycle from him and walk away. I go inside my gf's house and we count candies. She knows I'm doing the no side ride that night and the Noche de los bicycletas muertos so she lets me borrow her Kryptonite cable. Sweet.
November 1st, 4:15 a.m. :
I had finished the No side ride and had come back from Ryan's party. I'm supposed to go to MOP at Occidental College in 5 hours. I arrive at a friends house (on Alvarado and Temple) to get as much sleep as possible before we leave to MOP. I get into her apartment complex and lock my bicycle inside her apartment patio. I go upstairs and sleep.
4 hours later:
We go downstairs, my bicycle is gone! The only thing that was left was my fallen back light. All my spoke cards, gone. My sentimental value for the bicycle I had started with....still motherfucking there. She wasn't much but she was mine.
YOu know where the thief lives...or the house that he went to. You can identify the thief. Make a Police report. At least, the cops will have their eyes on that house...and, at best, they will nab the thief.
Damn man... sorry to hear about that. The place where your bike was ultimately stolen was different from your gf place and that earlier incident right? So it could've not been the same guy? Did they just pry the ulock off? Again... sorry to hear about the bike. Put some pictures up and more info so we can keep an eye out for you.
these motherfuckers are ruining our altruistic community and taking advantage of the fact that we are so welcoming and friendly. the last thing we want is to start acting like the rest of society - weary about everyone. but these pieces of shit, and excuse my language, but i'm fed up with this shit. a friend lost her fucking iphone and was amongst friends, save for one, and it just fucks up everything and for everyone. yo.... seriously... THIS HAS GOT TO STOP!! I dont want to say just hang out with those you really know... but if you're gonna hang out with someone make sure someone you know pretty well to very well can vouch for them as well.
There was a thread on LA Fixed (Stolen Parts thread) about some identified thieves that live in that area that are causing a lot of this shit... maybe the same ones?
that fucking sucks!!! I remember you telling me at the corner of normandie and washington before the riders all showed up how you caught someone stealing your bike and me telling you how lucky you were you caught them!! FUCK!!! that suuuuuuuucks! but hey...this means a NEW bike may be in your future...and that is always a good thing.
If you are in Echo Park or you live there, until this bicycle thieving stops, put your bicycle inside. DO NOT LOCK IT OUTSIDE!
Bikes are not safe outside.
that itouch belonged to one of our very beloved riders who was letting a couple of us crash at her place. she was doing a good deed... and in the process was taken advantage. bike or itouch it doesnt matter so quit with that bullshit "if it aint a bike it aint shit". disrespect is disrespect no matter what light is shone on it and how you want to see it.
but... the issue is not with us. it's with thieves in general.
I was thinking of doing that but the thing is, is that the person who atempted the first robbery (which was not successful) is part of a gang and they know I'm their neigbor's girlfriend and I wouldn't want to get her in trouble or her family if he was to be sent to jail because It think he's on parole. I'm not willing to put anyone into harms way for a meare inanimate object.
@digablesoul
yeah. Where they ultimately stole my bike was a different area than the first incident. I'm not sure what method they used. Neighbors said they heard banging early in the morning...
@La duderina
Oh hey, it's you. yeah sucks balls. That's the only real thing thats keeping my head up. Looking for a new bike. But I was trying to save up to make a really good bike so now I have to put that off. These things happen.
@Everyone.
The place where my bicycle got stolen has cameras and hopefully the residents can identify him/her and I could press charges.. Thanks for the support. Much love. Just please, love your bicycles. I've learned my lesson. I wish I would have taken a decent photo with her to have framed it. I have some pictures but my computer is messed up at the moment and I can't access my pictures for some reason. Pictures will come soon.
if i read correctly you used a cable lock that a friend lent you to lock your bike? :/ a LBS store owner once told me this: "..using a cable lock is just asking for your bike to be stolen" In all honesty, most of the time people get their bike stolen due to the fact that they dont use U-locks, and if they do use a U-lock, they dont use it properly. Invest in a u-lock and learn to use it properly. Also, the smaller the better... less leverage: Kryp Evo Mini ftw. hard to learn how to deal with it initially and it makes it limited to what you can lock ur bike up to, but its better safe than sorry. and once you know how to lock up.. they are going to have to make quite a huge ruckus to get your bike.
I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I would have no clue what I would do if i lost mine...
My u-lock key broke inside of my u-lock on the last Sins and Sprokets ride. And I was looking forward to buying another one this weekend. I wouldn't have normally trusted a cable lock but I thought it would have been safe locked up inside the building.
@Coco. Aww that's sweeheart. I really appreciate your offer but I'm stable for the moment. A friend is letting me borrow her Univega. I'll see you at Fuzzbeasts ride. ;}
@la duderina
Hahahaha. That is some MAD security. I think Syoma has that one.
lol..I love my chain. Not only does just the burly look of it deter thieves, but it can be used as a weapon (shit's like 12 lbs!), helps with strength training, and plus when you wear it you just look like a bad ass and no one wants to fuck with you!
I see what you are saying about the gang parole shit....but you can't let that motherfucker own you. You found one of the people who is stealing the bikes. wtf? Post the address. Post a picture of him. IMHO, you shouldn't be cowed by this fuck. Let us all know where it is. Let us all know who it is. Someone else will call the Police. The situation, as it stands is this: we know a who a bike thief is and where he lives...in an area where bikes are getting stolen all the time. That is at least 75 percent of the problem solved, right there. We've got to stand up. I hope you don't find my urging insensitive, but once you allow someone to get away with something like this, with no consequences for their actions....they will repeat what they have been doing...except next time they won't try to hide it from you.
I am really sorry about your losing the bike. And, I hope you get a new, better ride soon.
@la duderina
Your too hardcore. lol Thta's just too bad ass for me. A simple Krypto U-lock will do. 12 lbs? Thats mad.
@Tern
Well I don't think i can provide a name since I don't know his name and My gf and her family doesn't really associate with them but he does live on Lemoyne St. 1 house away from Effie St. In Echo Park.
It's the right lower corner of this Image.
im going to start carrying a leather belt to give these fucking lil fuckin rug rats a good fucking diciplanary fuckin ass fucking whooping like ther fucking ignorant neglectful fucking irresponsible parents never fucking gave them i will beat there lil fucking asses raw till they fucking tell me where the fuck our fucking stolen bikes and bike parts fucking went and i will lash them all the fucking way to the fucking secret chop shop garage where the fucking store the shit. Eddie no ones gun pointing any one...
If I was in town I would def confront anyone who steals from us..
The fogittaboutit 3ft chain realy does it. It reaches my front and rear wheel. But I'm still super paranoid about my seat and post.
FyI it really sits comfortably around the waist..
do you have a pic of ur bike... that way we can keep an eye out for it... check CL as well... i've had trouble on sunset and alvarado with kids, they were pretty young, i would say about 14 or 15 trying to take my bike... when they saw me they left... not cool
