I hope to hear some Stereolab, !!!, and Social Distortion in the mix ... as they all lost members in bike/car accidents in the last few years. (in socal-d's case it was an x-memeber).
Brent Liles of Social Distortion and Later Agent Orange was killed riding a bmx bike on the sidewalk ... whet into the crosswalk in front of a of a freeway entrance and was plowed by a simi turning right to get on the freeway. It must be true, I read it in PUNK NEWS
Yes, yes, I'll be happy to take your music. Right now I have some classic spanish music, and a few other new songs. I was hoping BBD's trailer would be finished, but if that's not ready, I'll need someone else.
Richie? Eddie?
Who else has one?
I have a tiny amp that is sufficient for the 20 people around me. Ha. Ha. Haaaaa.
Glow Rider was one of us. He was a Rida. Totally should honor him on that night as well as many other fallen people of the bicycling minded community as a whole.
Hopefully Aksendz means that we won't be offended by birthday candles. But, yeah, a candle is a candle. Dia De Los Muertos is a celebration for the deceased, not a funeral.
I was friends with Mary from Stereolab. She was a dedicated bike rider. It was her only transport. I suggest anything from Emperor Tomato Ketchup or Dots and Loops. Those albums really show off her skills and are great riding songs to boot.
If I'm either still lingering around Montebello with no-to-light loadage, or I rent a car a drive from the desert again, my system should be charged either way.
If anyone wants to do the route with me today before LACM, text me before 3pm. My number is in my profile.
Joe Borfo and Dan B. Knuckles, this means you too. :)
you guys are on some stupid fucking drugs. ghost bikes are what you dont want to see.
Ghost Bikes are small and somber memorials for bicyclists who are killed or hit on the street. A bicycle is painted all white and locked to a street sign near the crash site, accompanied by a small plaque. They serve as reminders of the tragedy that took place on an otherwise anonymous street corner, and as quiet statements in support of cyclists' right to safe travel.
The first ghost bikes were created in St. Louis, Missouri in 2003, and they have since appeared in at least 66 cities throughout the world. For those who create and install the memorials, the death of a fellow bicyclist hits home. We all travel the same unsafe streets and face the same risks; it could just as easily be any one of us. Each time we say we hope to never have to do it again -- but we remain committed to making these memorials as long as they are needed.
There are shirts and they look awesome. Pass the word and bring your asses out and ride tonight. There isn't supposed to be rain tonight, just a few scattered showers during the day, so don't worry about gettin wet.
PASS THE WORD, THERE ARE TSHIRTS AND THEY'RE JUST 10 BUCKS!!!
However, Allan was telling me that this ride was actually bigger last year, but then again, I was tending to the stables then, so who knew.
Anyway, the system is going to be docked at Chynna's place for the time-being.
That thing is cool and all, and I'm very proud of it.
I just find it too cumbersome to ride all the way back to Montebello, then take everything off, and then have all of it bouncing around in my rig while I haul a container back home.
About it being bigger before.... that was 2006 and was the 2nd Friday MR ride in November. But then again it was 2006 when we didn't have all these rides. I remember my legs were cramping soooo bad biking back to echo park. I never thought I was gonna make it.
Great job with everything and I love the tshirts!!!
Oh one thing though.... those train tracks on Alameda... very sketchy. I saw one ate it and I hope they are all right.
awesome ride, good times and cool tshirt.
thanks to eddieboyinla for checking to see if my nishiki was legit or if it was a fake. haha. that's the first time i've ever heard of that.
Good job on the shirts celeste.Bad ass design and good quality soft as fuck...
There's still many shirts left, they will be selling thru out the rides ..
Remember, there's no profit involved..money goes to covering costs of shirts and profit to toy ride.
Seriously, if you dont get this year's shirt , you gonna regret it..
Billy, for those who don't know, is HEAVY... add 30 - 40 lbs of shit in that front basket... and some hills, and a single speed coaster brake hub that doesnt function too well... as well as a posture that pretty much makes most of the workout in your calves, yes, I'm TIRED... I woke up at 4:20 this afternoon... and I still feel like going back to bed.
I loved that ride! fun fun fun! It was so nice to ride faster at the end of the ride, sorry to anyone that was having trouble keeping up. It was just too exhilarating going faster.
I'll post my pictures up soon. I only have around 5 though.
Guys , there's still lots of shirts left over..Celeste was nice enough to get them fronted so they need to be sold in order to cover costs and make som money for toy ride...
$10 for charity and the shirts are bad ass this year..
remember when your parents told you:
"if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"? i believed it for a second, but then thought that for the most part, it was stupid.
this was how the ride went and then you tell me how 'great' it was:
-ride five miles
-stop at gas station liquor store for 20+ minutes
-ride four miles
-stop at park for 45 minutes
-ride four miles
-stop at another liquor store for 30+ minutes
what happened to midnight RIDAZZ??!!!
this is more like midnight drinkerzz, smokerzz, and RESTerZZZ. boring. aren't we about riding bicycles?!!!!!
zZZZZZZZZ... puts many to sleep which is why the ride thinned out so quickly. boring and a huge disappointment, but the route had potential to be a great ride.
Don't mean to be rude, but the fact that there were quite a few first time riders, or riders who were struggling due to all the hills and what not... plus the fact that Chynna... little Chynna... who almost singled handedly put this whole thing together was carrying ben striders heavy ass music system.... i mean c'mon. stop bitching.
@thrasher & meandmybluebike
I totally know what you're saying. I had NO intention on stopping that many times. In fact, my intentions were only stopping like twice at most. Like Jazzy said, the problem was that I was carrying a soundsytem that was heavy as fuck and therefore wasn't at the front everytime we had a hill. That led to other people stopping, and when that happens, well, we all stop. Dan helped out a lot with leading though, so thank goodness the ride wasn't only being led by some people who didn't know where they were going. Sorry about that, again.
@ephemerae
You're welcome! And thank you for the photos!
@trickmilla & everyone
We'll have the t-shirts next Friday.
-My legs were absolutely fine, but my back was dead. I think it had to do with the fact that I was on my roadbike and not a mountain bike or something that could hold the system much better.
Well, I sort of volunteered the system out to her because I thought I would be back in the truck by Saturday night, but since I stayed over, figured I might as well just ride with the pack until we hit Eastern/Chavez.
Chynna actually did a pretty, good job considering the bike she had to work with.
But she's not me, so if anyone was expecting the "bullet-speeds" I was pulling on Halloween night when I had the system, then you were tuned into a different channel.
You got to remember that there is 30 pounds of weight on that seatpost rack, a balance of high-pressure tires, and physical conditioning will make you a master of pulling that thing up them hills we encountered on the way-route.
I did find it kind of funny how on the way to that Halloween party at Ryan's place, everyone else walked up the steepie, whilst I blared my Vince Gill and pedal-putted to the top.
I thought the ride was great (sorry Annie, but really I did). I had a great time. The shirts looked awesome and the spokecards were kickass. I rode my bike with my friends in a neighborhood i don't see very often. that to me is a great night. okay, yes some stops were a little long, but come on, give chynna a break. it was her first time putting together a ride, and i know you know that is a big task to take on. Over all it was a great ride.
I actually had a really good time on this ride... maybe cuz I was feeling the social vibe? I dunno. The only stop that I was annoyed with was (the first?) gas station stop... because there were no bathrooms and the side streets/alleys/corners looked way to sketchy to even squat in. I did anyway... behind a lampost... like a true lady. Anyway, stops with nowhere to pee shouldn't linger so long, in my opinion...
Just gotta chime in that I really enjoyed this ride myself, and I'm one of the people who's often on the side of fewer & shorter stops, especially if excessive drinking is going to be involved. But sometimes the mood just feels right overall. The ride seemed just the right size, we were greeted warmly wherever we went, and the ridazz themselves were considerate of the neighborhoods and the motorists we encountered.
For a variety of reasons, including good company and excellent photo ops, the evening just got better & better for me. The route was great, with only one exception: no rides should ever go down Alameda! Those tracks are murder even for experienced riders.
