ROGUE Ride IV
Thread started by
bondink at 11.6.08 - 12:22 pm
Ride meets at 8:00 PM at Virginia Park, on the corner of Pico Blvd and Cloverfield Blvd in Santa Monica. Ride leaves at 9:00 PM SHARP. (Not bike time) The ride will end at the starting point, so Eastsiders and Valley-dwellers bringing cars will be able to get back to them conveniently.
This ride will have a Robotz-esque feel; speed and distance with sprinkled hills. Beach cruisers are not welcome. Leave them at the beach.
Dress like a Rogue, whatever that means to you. We will be riding though some of the hoity-toitiest, stiff upper-lip, celebrity-encrusted, hummer-driving neighborhoods, so we'll be showing them what Rogue Ridazz are all about. (Whatever that means to you.)
This ride will end in a party on a private patio with a bonfire. There will be one last liquor stop to fuel up on Joose or Sparks before the party. Bring things to burn. (Whatever that means to you.)

huge Star Wars junkie. so BIG.
i don't believe I, II & III ever existed. it broke my heart. i was overly affected by it.
thus we begin ROGUE with IV: A New Hope for a new ride.
then, if all goes well, i unveil V.

it's not a star wars ride, though coming as ROGUE Jedi would be sweet.
it's more of the junkie in me -- when working roman numerals.. had to go with IV.

WE DO WHAT WE WANT!!!
YOU DONT KNOW ME!!!!
Rogues take risks.
Rogues are willing to shun titles and personal financial success in the pursuit of the greater good.
Rogues pursue the long shot.
Rogues have respect for diversity.
Rogues are never satisfied to rest on past laurels.
Rogues work hard.
Rogues are driven to succeed in their chosen field.
Rogues ignore the accepted patterns and blaze their own trails.
Rogues have raw talent and focus on that talent.
Rogues are honest with themselves and others.
Rogues are rebels.
Rogues have one foot in reality to let them get the job done, but they are, nonetheless, led by their dreams.

The word "rogue" was first recorded in print in John Awdeley’s Fraternity of Vagabonds (1561), and then in Thomas Harman’s Caveat for Common Cursitors (1566).
The 1572 Vagabond Act defined a rogue as a healthy person who has no land, no master, and no legitimate trade or source of income; it included rogues in the class of idle vagrants or vagabonds.
If a person was apprehended as a rogue, he would be stripped to the waist, whipped until bleeding, and a hole "about the compass [circumference] of an inch" would be burned through the cartilage of his right ear.
A rogue who committed a second offence, unless taken in by someone who would give him work for one year, could face execution as a felon. A third-offence perpetrator would only escape death if someone hired him for two years.
The 1598 Vagabond Act banished and transplanted "incorrigible and dangerous rogues" overseas, and the 1604 Act commanded that rogues be branded with the letter "R" on their bodies.

This ride was the high-light of my rather, dull week.
From the roll-out, to the crazy-ass, ZOOBOMB-inspired hills where I thought I would spill my load., The parking structure where I was screaming at all the light-bike equipped, slow-crawlers putzing upwards., Beverly Hills PD and that one dude going at it verbally., That crazy-ass room where I placed the system.,
Party at Hal's work-place and that kick-ass, bonfire.,
Alex Thompson showing up and wearing grannie-panties.,
This night kicked so much ass!!!
I felt like I was 12 again and got my first, Red Ryder!!!!
And as always, it was a pleasure hauling the tunes.
And special thanks to Krista for giving myself and Matt a lift to downtown.

This was a fun ride. We covered some virgin territory as any self-respecting ROGUE should. As dicey as the hills in the start may have been, it didn't compare to mass trespassing on federal property in full party mode. I particularly enjoyed the break-away ROOT we did from the VA to the studio loft. Thank you shiznitologist for making that happen. It was good to ride hard with some familiar faces for the first time in a while and see some new faces keeping pace with us.
@ Hal and Sara
thanks for a fun ride and a memorably fiery ending at the loft. I look forward to seeing some of the studio portraits.

*** PSA ***
Just so you everyone knows, when we were heading west on Wilshire after the downhill where some folks chose to go down against traffic, the BHPD squad car was trying to pull those two people over. That's why the SUV was slowly cutting off the group as we turned on Wilshire. I thought the cop was just trying to be an ass and started cursing at him, but he was actually trying to detain the hill bombers that barely scraped past his car earlier.
I was dumb enough to intervene not knowing all the details, and I almost got slapped with a felony charge for interfering with his arrest.
The cop was down to earth and reasonable, and mentioned that he'd even be willing to cork intersections for rides in his area as long as riders are obeying the traffic rules. He wasn't too happy about the circle of death earlier that night, or the folks riding past him on the wrong side of the road in a residential area. This may have been the same officer that Hal spoke to earlier that night.
I never thought I'd be on the BHPD's side after my first interaction with them
a few months back, but in this case, he was on point.
It's easy to forget, but not all cops are assholes, and not all Ridazz do dumb ignorant shit.
*** End PSA ***

Didn't know what was going on, but thought it best that everyone stayed on point and kept rolling.
Last thing we needed was a cop getting scared shitless with a bunch of potential, bike-rockets aimed his/her way.
As far as the anonymous, wannabe Zoobombers, they probably faded back into the crowd and into the back of all of our memories.
Why that always happens, perhaps they're bored, loners just looking to stir up trouble and kill the buzz for us F.U.N. lovers.
In other words, if you wanna cause trouble, just stay home and read the Book Of Moron!!!

this was the first Midnight Ridazz event ive gone to, and being nearly the only one with a mountain bike i nearly died on the first hill going up :-P Once up it and we got to the intersection my friend was feeling woozy and we had to bail out.
Are there other people that ride mountain bikes with dirt tires and suspension that make it though these hills? Maybe im just out of shape :-P

first of all welcome to MR. look to your right and choose your rides - they are always a GREAT time.
i used to ride a mountain bike with the tires you speak of and i too had one hell of a time keeping up - but i kept at it. then i got road tires and still had just as hard a time keeping up.
i love that ROGUE was your first time - we both popped cherries that evening as this was my first ride to put together with HAL. it was a tough one, i will give you that. i did it fixed for the first time (riding fixed three days) - it was even difficult for me - and i did the damn route!
hahahaha!
CRANK MOB would be a perfect ride for you to ride on. Taco Tuesday is my religion, i go every week.
work yourself up - keep riding. by the time ROGUE V happens - you'll be ready for it..
Welcome!

thank you for the inspiration. Ill keep riding my DS1, ill just have to build up bigger leg muscles. We also had to play catch up with you guys because my friend wanted to move his car at the last minute worrying about being towed.
Is the rouge run more difficult than others? I dont see any kind of levels listed on the events.

I was the dude hauling the system on the rack.
That system and the MTB I was riding are about 50-60 pounds together!!!
Although I have 100psi street tires in place of the knobbies, I felt I was better conditioned for the hills than most, especially dragging all that ass up some of the steeper portions.
If anything, flying down them was the scary part!!!
If anything, just ride more, cross-train a little bit in the gym, and you too could conquer the hills on your Mountain Machine.
