Cancelled . . . no way possible! Might cut the numbers down some, but the ride will go on. The two rides last year that had rain were some of the best ever. I'm hoping the rain holds off, but a good Rida always prepares.

I'm there rain or shine.

Riding up from my place in Mar Vista down Venice Blvd around 7:30.

The last coule of times, I've stopped for a couple tacos and a Coca Cola at some taco joint where I get to practice using my very limited Espanol.

I will also be riding home. Anybody riding from the West side, look for the guy in the highly visible gold Los Angeles Galaxy jersey, and maybe we can get a small group together.

I had to peel off at the bicycle kitchen. I work a 12 hour shift in just a few hours. As always I enjoyed the ride but this one seemed more subdued and disjointed than the rest. It must have been the date or the weather. The lightning going down Hoover was fuckin' beautiful. Hey I'm not complaining, it just seemed different from the other rides I've been on, that's all. I look forward to the next one!

I felt the same way. The ride was fun and I met cool people. It just felt a little empty or something.

There was uncertainty about whether we should stop or go through lights. The back part of the mass is where I was a lot and it was tough to justify cars waiting when our group was so thinned out.

What do you guys think about the route? Seemed maybe too long for so many numbers. I'm estimating 700? 800? The second friday should be shorter I think. Closer to 17 miles. We're just too massive on that night.

People say the rides need to be 100-200 for them to be the most fun. Maybe we can coordinate something like timed groupings of 100 ridazz. I'm going to put some thought into a ride like that.

I enjoyed the ride too. It didn't seem as lively and I sadly... forgot my whistle. Yeah... the lightning in the distance was crazy but I did get a flat after that uphill part (Big props to the single speed/fixed gear riders. I don't know how you guys do it.) on Arlington and the 10fwy and a HUGE thanks to Chris for helping me out. We cut through streets to catch up to the ride. This is my 5th ride and never really gave it a thought of the "no rider left behind" until.... I was on the sidewalk. It's the oddest feeling because for a long time from the start... you ride in this pack and when that initial thought of, "My tire is feeling a little wierd... oh great!!" It's hard not to feel alone as the ride passes you by as your fixing your flat. It's nice to know that there were a lot of riders out there that kept asking if I was alright while they rode by. But I had my kit but it's great to know that help is there just in case a tire lever breaks... etc. Keep up the great work organizers and it's reassuring to know that the saying is true... no rider will be left behind. Ride on!!

At the first rest stop, I had a couple ridazz ask me if I was going to ride back to Mar Vista down Venice Blvd.

We agreed to find each other at Echo Park, but I never saw them again.

After turning onto Venice from Alvarado street last night, I went by a group of guys standing on a street corner. I don't think they were out there selling Girl Scout cookies at 2:00 AM.

It would definitely be good to have a group to ride home with. Let's try again next time.

I'm thinking more like 400 Ridazz (based on the number of spoke cards we gave out). I spent a lot of time at the front, trying to move things along because I knew it was a long ride (which people have said they want). Just to be clear, it wasn't MY route, but I did feel a sense of duty to the person that had put it together but couldn't be there.

Is it just me, or were the stops a bit lengthy? I'm all in favor of letting people catch up & socialize, but on a cool night these old bones start to stiffen up if they wait around too long.

I made it to the park, watched the Ridazz dribble in and had the sense that maybe a lot of people had bailed early, especially the ones that had left their cars near the start point.

yikes I forgot to mention the fact that the longer route was my actually mostly my fault. I remember at one point the route was like 20 mi or less and I suggested putting more mi on it.. but maybe I'm the only one who feels like it was too long?

The length was fine (and this is from someone who considers himself out of shape but welcomes the challenge). The couple of steep and short inclines resulted in groans and complaints from the people around me.The long incline (basically from Jefferson all the way to Hollywood was uphill) wore on people - and quite a few people were not in a jolly mood because they didn't expect a workout. Each ride is different, and has its own moments. For this ride - I loved the lighting as we rode down Hoover and the guy at the bus stop on Fairfax squealing like a little girl and looking for high fives from us. It was great to do some riding in south central, even if we were just on the northern border. With no tunes (due to the threatening rain) and a ride that dosen't agree with the 40 of Mickeys you chugged at University Village - it isn't a surprise that it wasn't as festive. It was nice that the knuckle heads didn't seem to be in attendance last night.

I thought the distance was fine, as were the few inclines. The lightning going torwards USC was bitchin'.. As Mr. Rollers mentioned the stops might have been a lil' bit lengthy.. My knee was starting to lock on me, and my wounded heel started to act up on me at the Sunset & Fairfax stop... I think a South Central ride would be real nice... I would be down for that, and there are hardly any hills out that way... Overall the ride was great, and I enjoyed it. I guess any negativity could be blamed on Friday the 13th.

As the "organizer" of the Friday the 13th ride I was really happy to hear a general positive feedback. I was unable to attend the ride as my mother passed away the night before. Despite everything going on I was STILL thinking of all you guys and imagining all the crazy fun going on. Did the LAPD show up? I'm hoping people did spot the Felix the Cat sign (going with the don't let the black cat cross you path) among other superstition-related things. I'm hoping to show up at the (ironically) La Noche ride, passing cemeteries may be a little bit much for me but I'll see how I'm doing. Glad most of you had fun though.

We covered a fair bit of ground, just short of 25Miles, as the google flies:

http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=494507

the trip length wasn't a problem. The hills were, in my opinion, I guess a geared bike (and more time in the saddle) is in my future. I noticed one person fixing a flat before the ride, not to worry, I picked up the discarded rubber and deposited it in the trash can not 5 ft away afterwards, they must have been excited to begin the ride.

I guess with a crowd this big, its a pipe dream to "obey the laws, stop at reds, and no corking"

Thanks for the info about where the ride would start and end.
I parked at the end of the ride and rode to the start from there. I have more energy at the beginning of a ride.

I was targeted last Friday on the Pedal'nPub crawl, too. what's going on with the drive by's? is this typical in the city?

oops that was my tire tube. :) thanks for picking up after me.

paintballs? isnt the pedal n pub crawl in the valley? If so that would be more than just a coincidence... it would also mean that the culprit likely lives in the valley. no one from LA would be so bored as to drive all the way out from LA to the valley.

Roadblock
10.15.06 - 5:58 pm

Paintball hits?! That's so lame!!! (Bummer though, I missed this ride, "Thus Climbed..", and "Spoke(n)"

btw; the Valley is LA. From Sunset Strip to Ventura Blvd is about 4-5 miles.

I'd place my bets it not being as much a bored individual than possibly someone who is/or has been pissed off by disrespectful ridazz. Not often but from time to time I've seen some pumped up dude flippin' a car off for something-or-other, or shouting "fuck you". Justified or not, it will ultimately bring back a like response.

my humble 2cents....now all of you FUCKOFF!
heh he, that's a joke. don't shoot.

yes yes yes technically the valley is LA... but it sure is far to travel for some vengeful paintballer. I'm attrmpting to narrow the field down so to speak in case there are some more withnesses. and it's true, Ridazz has a tendency of loudmouths yelling and screaming at cars.... that will def create some enemies.

Yeah, with those signature 'chops, you stand out like a...public figure. Need to set a better example.

And you have a way with words. We are pretty bored out here in the valley so I wouldn't put it past some valley dude driving out to LA just to shoot paintballs at a rida.

keep up the good work.

Ride On.

the route was good...the route was fun...the lightning was cool...

but I think the combination of distance and the hesitance at red lights and different rider strength, caused the group to get stretched out a bit...

that combined with people splitting off (I had to split off with a buddy, because his knee started hurting from his cool-looking-but-badly-designed vintage bike....we ran off to the safety of the Bicycle Kitchen) and the threat of bad luck made it a strange ride...

how many people made it to the end?

I thought it was a great ride. I didn't mind the distance at all, but i didn't realize Fairfax was that long of an incline. I didn't stick around at the bike kitchen stop for very long, thinking i could get some food at El Gran burrito and then catch up with the crew. BAD IDEA. I had a little trouble riding on a belly full of carne asada, and just headed home. Overall, a great night. And that lightning was killer.
