how many calories does it take to smile?

c'mon RB everybody knows one good 2 and half second smile, burns approx. 12.5 calories.

sounds right. The 2 calories to initiate the action of smiling, and the rest are burnt holding it.

Assuming that the number of calories burned increases more-or-less proportionally with the number of muscles recruited to perform an activity, the number of calories burned in a smile will vary depending on whether the smile is fake or real. A spontaneous (or perhaps better put, an artless) smile will involve the musculature around the eyes--that's one of the ways that a keen observer can detect an insincere smile. Thus, it's impossible to cite a single, universally applicable figure for Calories Per Smile, unless perhaps we are willing to adopt a dual standard similar to that used by the federal government for measuring automotive fuel mileage: whereas the EPA publishes "city" and "highway" mileage, we could establish figures for CPFS (Calories Per Fake Smile) and CPRS (Calories Per Real Smile).
Can somebody get to work on that, please? I'm way too busy, as you can see. Thank you.

How many calories do you burn trying NOT to laugh???
I bet it's probably something similar to calories burned during a dry-heave...

Dry heave? That would be 121 calories, per "heave".
Have you ever had a dry heave, it's painful. And wears you out. Definitely more than walking, which is exactly 322 calories an hour.
