Anyone heard about a fatal cyclist vs. Dash bus accident downtown this morning. I just got the following email:
As I neared my office downtown yesterday morning (12/7) at about 7:15AM, Flower Street at 5th was closed as the result of an accident. All I could see was a Dash bus alone in the second lane to the right. After entering my building I learned from the security staff that a bicyclist had been struck and killed by the bus. The street remained closed for well over 1 hr.

It wasn't a cyclist, it was a woman slaughtered by the DASH bus a 5th and Flower.
I rode past it at 8:30 am on my regular commute yesterday. truly horrific. Brains and blood all over the pavement.
hopefully the daymen will get something up on streetsblog soon....i am having trouble finding any information about it...
if you call 877 ASK-LAPD and tell them you are with the press doing a story about the incident, that would really help get the information out... there really should be some sort of press release about this truly horrific incident.

Pedestrian killed downtown was in crosswalk legally, LAPD says
9:17 PM, January 9, 2009
Police are now saying that a pedestrian killed Wednesday morning in downtown Los Angeles was legally in a crosswalk when the accident occurred.
Gwendolyn Coleman, 58, of Burbank was hit by a city of Los Angeles DASH bus at 5th and Flower streets about 6:35 a.m. Coleman had the green light to cross and the driver of the bus did not see her because of a blind spot, said Richard French, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department.
The DASH bus was turning from 5th onto Flower when the accident happened. First Transit, the company that operates the buses for the city, said Thursday that the driver of the bus had been put on suspension pending an investigation.
