calling all ye Ridazz photographers editors and bloggers!
GREAT NEWS
due to the many many many requests to make this site more use-able and functional I am going to stop talking and start doing by coming up with ways to raise the badly needed funds to actually "make it happen"
It'sbeen talked about for years but the good news is that I'm working with an amazing and seasoned local independent book publisher has volunteered his time to put together an official Midnight Ridazz Book. It's going to be RAWSOME.
All proceeds will go to updating this web site.
I am asking all you talented photographers who have been documenting this amazing and bicycle zeppelin of love as it has sprouted into a multi faceted all city culture of group rides and bike love not seen in any other city on earth.
anyone who is interested in participating in this project please email me your info. I'm looking for high res images in particular anyone who was there for the first and second years as photography is scarce from that period.. all the way to Midnight Ridazz many exploits and missions to other cities, the hundreds of rides organized on this site by this community, the people the places we've gone, the trash we've eaten...
I'm also looking for editorial help from the Ridazz amongst us who write blogs and articles. THIS IS your chance to get involved and not only help bring much needed improvements to the site but to document in physical form, our culture for the world to put on their book shelf.
please email me at roadblock at midnight ridazz dot calm

I'm actually really excited that the publisher, Raymundo has volunteered his services. If anyone here is familiar with
his work over the years you know this book will be designed quite well. Some of you may also know the man from his exploits as the person responsible for the Macondo Club back in the day and for his collaboration with Cache on the Mural now painted on O20. Your coffee table will thank you.

you will! putting together a book is a project big enough for everyone to get involved. help me contact photographers (ahem stilllinnnne) and copy writers. I want to get every ride included in the history every organizer every participant somehow represented. that way more people will buy the book and we can raise the funds necessary for a proper website. this won't be the only plan of attack to raise funds but it will be a very important one. thank you!

Hello --
I don't have any (good) photographs to submit -- only seriously grainy shots of people laughing inanely while hopped up on Joose, sometimes with a bike in the background. But I can edit the fuck out of text. Keep the grammar consistent, suggest alternates for clarity (which will be sent back to the original authors for approval), etc.
Yes?
I'll e-mail you about it, Mr. Block.

I hoped and prayed that it would come in handy some day.
God knows it wasn't doing me any good as a designer.
I just pissed off the writers a lot.

Guise I am cerally astounded by all the responses I've gotten in just a half day. Truly inspired. What is so beautiful about this thing we call midnight ridazz is how diverse a group we all are and that is exactly what I intend this book to reflect. The volume of art, ideas, good will, outlandish stunts, road trips and mischief we've produced over the last 5 years is trully trully TRULY inspiring. This book will embrace it all.
We arent just a bunch of people on bikes. This is a cultural thing that I don't ever want to forget these salad days we share and I know none of you do either. We deserve to have a hard copy.... something that technology won't abandon. Something the kids will grown about everytime its pulled off the shelf. Something shocked and offended archaeologists of the future might discover perfectly preserved after the magnetic holocaust render every hard drive useless....

SO SWEET. I've been daydreaming about an MR book ever since I found out about it! Book design was my favorite class in school... and although I've only written and designed one full book, I've always got it on the brain. Sounds like you've got the design covered though, am I right? If you ever do need any help typesetting, or looking over the layout/grid/etc just let me know... I'd be ALL OVER THIS.

Midnight Ridazz,
I can't beleive I just saw this now.
You know ... I am 100,000,000% down for this.
I'll dig up pix from my early days (year 2) and I am delighted to help with editorial. I'm also down to assist any fundraising efforts that will push this project forward.
I can't wait for this to happen!

RB, have you ever seen the book
Yes Yes Y'all? about the first 10 years of Hip Hop? Its a must read just for history's sake. But I think you'd find inspirational, as it is beautiful, and does an excellent job of telling the story of the birth of hip hop.

Thankyou Gary your photos and blogs are completely awesome.
Thanks kims and freek as well. So many rad people have responded on here and by email. I will keep everyone posted via email. I will also be setting up an ftp depository.
Anyone can help by gathering contacts and favorite photos, testimonials, tidbits, stories, adventures. especially all you ride organizers who have spoke cards, stories, artwork and photos...

A am so fucking excited.
The type of creative energy that MR has generated over the last 5 years only comes out of a DIY "punk" scene.
The costumes, the spokecards, the artworks, the flyers, the shirts, patches, and of course all the photos.
A DVD of collected videos would be RAWWWSOME.
I hope its big! .. this book could weigh a thousand pounds.

If anyone has seen something they want in the book just let me know and I'll send full res versions to RB. Or I'll try to get them all up on flickr.
Personally I think we need lots of pics of rider of the year:

As a suggestion, it could be great to write, organize, and edit the book, etc. by using an internet Wiki, and license everthing in Creative Commons Share Alike, or the Gnu Free Documentation License. Then take all that info and design it for print form, and publish.

I can donate by time to get something like that setup, along with some server space.

Yeah I have sort of let this slip my mind, but I am still down to participate, contribute pretty pictures and words. However responding to the previous suggestion, I am not creative commons licensing my work for anything. I want full control over how my work is published and who gets to publish it.
GarySe7en01.26.09 - 8:29 pm

The differences between Creative Common's licenses are as wide as a canyon; It's impossible to form an opinion on all of them as a group.

Wikis and open source-type things are groovy and rad and everything, but they're not the right tool for every job.
