DEATH RIDE

Ok bare with me on this one, I'm thinkin on doin a DEATH RIDE, and no its not a ride where the end is a cliff, its just a somewhat dangerous ride.
WHERE: The ride would start and end at Crank mob park.
GEAR: Front and rear lights goes without saying, HELMETS WILL BE A MUST!!!!. I would highly recomend a first aid kit, at lest on extra tube, tools, if not I always carry tools with me. NO giant speaker box trailors, if you have a source of music that can be put on a rack or a back pack that will be fine.
ROUTE: The route will be as fallowed: Crank mob park-Venice blvd, Venice blvd-Bike path, Bike path-Temescal canyon, Temescal canyone-Sunset blvd, Sunset blvd-La cienaga, La cienaga-Venice blvd, Venice blvd-Crank mob park.
MINDSET: I would highly recomend being sober for this ride, we will party at the begging and end of the ride. Keep in mind that the dangerous part of the ride will be on sunset. THERE IS NO BIKE LANE(for most of it) we will take stops along the way, but not for drinking and smoking, mainly for refueling and minor bike adjustments. again we can party at the begging and end.
SPEED: This will not be a wolf pack, but its also not a crank mob. venice + bike path speeds I will say about 13-17 mph, up temescal-6-13 mph, sunset will vary, 6-12 up hill, 16-27 down hill, keep in mind that the first half of sunset is all up and down with some blind corners, think of like a roller coaster without the loops.
PLAN: My main goal for this ride will be that NO ONE GETS LEFT BEHIND!!!! I would want to cordinate with a couple of people who have walkie talkies, theres needs be at least 3 of them, the people with walkie talkies will be captains along with myslef. I and one of the captains will be in front, I want another in the middle, and another at the end. depending on how big the group will be, will result in the number of captains. Captains will be their and on alert to make sure that if some falls or anything like that evryone knows about, this will be to ensure that NO ONE WILL GET LEFT BEHIND.
TIME: This ride will take place mid-week, ( either a tue or wed) the meet time will be at 11:00 pm, we will leave around 12:00 am.
this will be a late night ride so make sure you have the energy.
I figure the later its is, the less traffic on sunset there will be, also this will ensure that everyone has time to go over their bike and make sure everything is tight and adjusted properly, I also recomend people exchanging cell numbers, this way is anyone does get lost they will be able to contact someone.
So thats my plan, you guys let me know if your down and I'll start making maps with details stop points and so one, I'll also make some SICK ASS ride cards. if anyone has any questions or concerns feel free to post up or email, sivartco@yahoo.com

This sounds crazy. When I read the title I thought everyone would be dressed as the grim reaper, but this sounds just as cool.

I think the death ride theme comes from the fact that those canyons aren't particularly safe to ride i.e.. steep terrain, low visibility for passing cars and lack of lighting to see obstacles in the road.
But they seem to be taking a lot of measures to keep people safe. Like less booze, walkie talkies and a not leaving anyone behind.

stilline's got the point, if you want to bust out with the reaper costume, sure I would advise against it, but hey thats just me,
just keep in mind that reaper costume will most likely be long, and your sprokets might not get along with that.
On a another note, I'm glad people are down. just keep in mind, this is supposed to be a mixture of chill and challenging, you can actually see the good bad and the ugly parts of LA. I would recommend brining a camera if you like documenting these rides, there should be some good photos, but again like stilline and I have said, there are some pretty steep inclines and blind turns.
Tell your friends about it, this will be a mid level cycling ride, for begginers, I would wait untill you become a bit more expeirence, if your more on the advanced, this should be walk in the park, your like me and are mid level, it'll be a fun challenge, you will easily beable to brag about this ride............mainly cause of the danger. ahahahahahha

actually I said it before, for about the first 4-6 miles of sunset are all canyone, so its all up and down, some big some small, and agian like I said, this isn't supposed to be a wolf pack deal, is not supposed to be some type of near impossible route, I know its not some crazy 50 mile ride, but also keep in mind, were leaving at midnight, its gonna be pretty late. it should take around 4-6 hours.
and hey guess what, if you dont like it, you dont have to do it.

well the way I see it, if we do it mid week, late night, there will be less cars on sunset, if theres less cars on sunset, the less chance we have of gettin taken out by the rich dicks flyin around in there mercedes.

i don't mean to be an asshole but that really isn't a very hard ride. and sunset isn't so much difficult as is is completely unfun and kinda dangerous. i would say cubcamp, root run, maybe sirens, lafixed "chill ride", any of those rides are about the same difficulty most weeks... try one out.

I'm not really tryin to get a hard ride together, if you hadn't noticed I'm goin for more of a danger theme, but you guys think it will be no problem, then fuck it, we'll do it during rush hour, that should make things more interesting.........who knows, maybe helmets will just be optional, ride cards will be givin out to who ever makes it back to CM park, on their bike.

+3 to steve
Its been done, repeatedly. Might even be one this week, between Wolfpack, Cubcamp, Root Run, and Sirens.
Make it dangerous.
No lights.
No brakes.
No seats.
