crankset????

is there any real difference? like can you tell the difference between a pake crankset, an iro crankset and a messenger crankset??? with that being said, i'm looking to buy a new crankset, but i honestly can not tell the difference... most of them look the same, like i know the difference in teeth size, i'm looking for something within a 42 to 46 chain ring size... but aside from that i really cant seem to make heads or tails of all the brands... like what's the difference between a 50 lasco crank and 150 dollar sugino crank set?

there's forged vs. cast for one
if you're not racing or riding real hard then I don't think it's a huge deal outside of aesthetics.

i'm a big guy, so i do put alot of pressure and i put alot of force on the crank arms, so i'm looking for something that can take some serious abuse, but not break the bank. yaddamean???

you're not gonna break anything. I'm a big guy too and my bike has low end cranks, they've held up so far.

it's not that big of a deal, but i was surprised when i made the switch that it does make a difference. as long as they're installed correctly, they shouldnt break--unless you get cottered cranks, in which case they inevitably will.

i swapped out my cotter cranks (after they broke) for a pake crankset + iro bottom bracket.
i just went to o20 asked for the best cheapest thing to do the job.
its been over a year and they have worked flawlessly.

if you're not racing i think only a handful of companies make the same shit for distributors to rebrand and sell under their brand.

Origin8 makes a real nice crank set in pretty colors you can pick pick up of ebay for around $50 incl'd s/h. I have it on my bike and it has been good to me.

thanks alot for the advice i ended going with a truvativ touro i got off of craigslist for about 45 bucks with the bottom bracket and so far soo good.
