Nice photo!
I'm currently reading "Dreams of My Father" and he talks pretty extensively about his partying days in high school and at Occidental College.
How much better is that than Bush's coke snortin' lying ass.
Or Clinton's: I did ... but it was in England, and I didn't inhale.

actually the possibility that I may one day rip it apart limb from limb is what wakes me up in the morning.
But I do believe that a good person running the country can change things. Look what FDR did. And he went into office in the EXACT SAME economic situation as Obama will be. Or look at Dennis Kucinich, I don't see any puppet strings on that man. Change can happen that's the way democracy is set up and I believe in that.
And if you don't, well I just feel bad for you.

if this was a true democracy, it would work like that. but our country is run by money interests, thus it is not a true democracy. it's called lobbying. it's cool that you wanna work from the inside and change shit, but again, the system doesn't work like that. if you reform something or truly try to change things and not play by the rules, they'll get rid of you however they please and or reform back to the old standards. they, being the ruling class elite. people with alot of fucking old money.

yeah! you wonder why he's choosing people that who's politics do not align with the politics on his campaign? it's not to be bipartisan. he's a puppet, like bush.
In reality, it is political genius. Haven't you heard of Lincoln's team of rivals? A president can't please everyone all of the time. People have interests other than YOURS and he's got to please them, too.
And change doesn't happen over night. Take the suffrage movement for example. Not many people know that Susan B Anthony died about 15 years before women got the right to vote. And she worked her whole life for that purpose.
Obama is a black man. He switched SEVEN...SEVEN states from red to blue. and you are sitting here telling me change can't happen?
I know money interests run our country. I know all of that. But the reason it is that way is because the fucking republicans have been running shit for too damn long. Democrats had TWO (or was it 4) years with majority rule back in the Clinton years, then the republicans took Congress back, basically disabling Clinton as an effective president. And they've had since then until now to FUCK EVERYTHING UP. Which they have.
You'd be suprised the things that can happen when democrats are running things. (Let me point back to my FDR example) People really need to bone up on their history.
And you say this 2 party system is a facade. Well its not really, it is what we have currently evolved into. Our democracy is forever evolving, and Obama is the first step in our evolution for the better. Yeah he may not be perfect but its a step.
Also, with the way things are right now, people know whats up. They know they are getting fucked. That's why the democrats are back in control...and that ALONE is change.
Finally, to sit here and say things aren't going to be any different, well that makes me think that you just haven't been paying attention the last 8 years. And I really can't stand all of this "oh he's going to be just the same as everyone else" BULLSHIT. It's a fucking cop-out. You don't want shit to be the same? Then stop fucking whining and
DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Yeah, get rid of the capitalist system.
Why should we have free market competition to see who can make the best product at the best price?
That's just a greedy western way of thinking.
Oh, wait, all those bike parts we use and like? They'd all pretty much suck and/or cost several times as much if there weren't a bunch of different companies competing for our business.
Think about why the U.S. doesn't import Russian or Chinese cars, and that will tell you all you need to know about what happens to production quality in the absence of competition.
Or, if you're bicycle-minded, compare the 1 speed, 40lb+ Flying Pigeon, traditionally China's national bike, which goes for $299, with any of the $299 bikes (fixies or geared) at bikesdirect.com that weigh about half as much.
There's a lot to be said for a free market. It needs to be regulated better (clearly), but it's not like there are many viable alternatives.

and I do acknowledge the working class. I grew up working class. I am totally on the side of the working class. The communist mother fucking manifesto sits next to me on my desk right now as I type.
But the reality is that working/middle class has disappeared. Its the economy, it is being divided into rich and poor just like it was before the great depression. And if you don't see that, well I don't know what to say.
Don't misread what I say just because we define words differently. We are saying the exact same thing, but you are reading what I say the wrong way. I'm well versed in politics, too, you aren't the only one.

well to me, the definition of working class is struggling just to get by and being exploited at work. for your wages. doesn't it suck when when you're making so much money for your employer, yet they don't pay it forward. that's exploitation. sadly, nowadays even people in the middle class are working class. but i have my views on the class system in general. it was installed to exploit people and not feel bad. "they're poor, so they need the work." even though they're being raped figuratively. that's fucked up. everyone is equal! it's also there (class system) to make one feel like they can escape poverty. cos once you're set, who gives a fuck about everyone else, right? that's the mentality of most people. i, on the other hand, try to love everyone and i view them equally. even if they hate me and see me as an enemy.

There's plenty of work for the working class in L.A. if you're willing to seek it out.
There are all kinds of trade schools for welding/machining/plumbing/iron working/auto repair, etc., etc., etc. where you can learn a skilled trade in a couple of years and have a pretty solid income.
see e.g.
http://www.lattc.edu/
www.scroc.com
etc., etc.
Sure, lots of the unskilled labor is going elsewhere, but if you like working with your hands and are willing to take the time to learn a skill or a craft, you can have a solid salary without a 4 year degree or grad school.

working class should have been in quotes in that previous post, I'm not trying to patronize anyone unintentionally.
JB12.17.08 - 11:49 pm
reply
yeah but you're still being exploited.
This is where Labor Unions come in. Republicans have destroyed labor unions....which has destroyed the working class. It used to be that a working class citizen could support a whole family on one income and send kids through college all on one income AND have a good retirement. This is no no longer possible by any means. This is why I say that there is no working class anymore, that everyone is poor because you have to struggle to survive.
That and there are hardly any jobs anymore. Yeah those jobs JB posted, but how many are there versus how many people are unemployed out there?

what's sad about these machinists is they're getting screwed over. you actually you used to be able to afford a house doing machine work, but not any more. the free market is so cool, that employers are getting rid of benefits, slashing wages, and many times hiring sub-contracted employees so they can pay them meager wages. jubs that use to earn 30/hr are now 12-15/hr with no benefits or job security.
it's happening with the auto workers right now. they've already slashed wages by two thirds, yet the corporations are complaining that they pay their employees too much and it's contributing to their losses. talk about exploitation.

everyone sales their labor. but when you're selling your labor to survive, you're working class. ragardless of where you live. you don't have to be "poor" to be working class. when you're poor you're working class, just below the poverty line. you literally can go days without eating. that's poor.

Yeah I know the feeling. My first wolfpack was fraught with mechanical problems!! You could even say I started off with a "bang".
You should definitely come back to WP. I get "dropped" every time but you only really get dropped if you quit. I've learned its not about keeping up with the fast guys. Its about making it as fast as YOU can. As long as you reach the stop before they leave, you're golden.

haha, i went out with a bang! i remember someone telling me "not the best bike to bring to the hustle. no offense." as they rode off and i had to dismount. i tried to fix the issue and continued riding to catch up to the meet point, but i just kept having problems so i threw in the towel and walked my bike home. shitty.
if my friend doesn't flake and brings me the bike i gave him (so i can part it out). than i'll try it this monday. my average speed is 15 mph. not sure if i'm fast enough, but fuck it. what you said about catching the pack before they leave, i totally get that now! it is a challenge for yourself. awesome!
