Glendale Blvd. and Allesandro and the 2 Freeway

Does anyone else here think that Glendale Blvd. near Allesandro where the 2 freeway begins sucks?
I think it's dangerous for pedestrians and motorists, nevermind cyclists. If you're going north, the two right lanes both merge into the 2 North and cars start racing to the freeway, make that sudden right, and sometimes hit the sidewalk! If you're going south, you get cars merging in from where the 2 South ends with little there to control their speed.
What does one do to get the city to make this crap intersection safer?

Yeah, agreed, completely scary (Glendale Blvd that is) for peds & bikes. Even though it's in my 'hood, I avoid it at all costs when cycling. Part of the reason it's the way it is comes from the fact that it has always been a "temporary" ramp. The 2 Freeway was originally planned to continue through Echo Park and Silverlake and tie into the Hollywood Freeway, but was stopped due to overwhelming opposition from the neighborhood residents. At least that's the way I heard it.
There are plans afoot to re-do the freeway terminus (public meetings have been held), which I believe involve slowing the cars down, putting in lights and crosswalks. I don't know what stage they're at or whether a design has been decided on, but it's due to happen in the next few years. The traffic on Glendale is only going to get worse with several residential projects underway.

Thanks for the info, rollers. A few years? Dag nabit! I have no alternative if I want to go into downtown other than going around using Silver Lake Blvd. to Sunset. I don't mind the hills, it just takes way longer.
Yeah, I'm not sure if I like the look of the new housing. Surely Neutra, whose old office is on Glendale right across from the Red Lion, is spinning in his grave!
In case anyone doesn't know where this is:

Yup... know that Glendale Blvd. pretty well... They did install that light at the Jack in the Box but people just think the freeway begins right when you pass Alvarado. There's been times when I'm thinking... how long is it going to take to get to Allesandro. Then when I make it up there to Riverside Dr... it's like no need to worry. It's the sidewalk pretty narrow too? Or lined w/ lights and poles that make it narrower?

Yikes, that IS a scary/dangerous spot. It's maybe a quarter mile from me but i rarely ever have to go through there because I never ride to glendale. I think the second time ever was last week headed for the las noches scout ride meetup. You kinda have to be on the sidewalk to cross safely and time it right when the cars are stopped at the light at that meat market or whatever it is. Thank Dog i have no reason to go through there often.

Yep. That spot sucks alright. My girlfriend Elizabeth got clipped there by a car turning onto the freeway. We were in the right side of the middle lane and in hindsight should have taken the whole lane or gone on the sidewalk to the crosswalk right there. Luckily she kept her balance and the car got a nice brake lever scrape down the side. Of course he kept on going up the fwy ramp and was too far away when I thought to get the plate #.
