Not a good idea I used a thick cable lock. Trying to get my bike back even if its a longshot and also to help spead info to others so you can take your criticism and stick it up your moms smelly cunt. Idiot.

WELL WHO ELSE DO WE BLAME?
IF IT WASNT FOR HIM TIEING HIS JUNK WITH A STRING THE PERPS WOULDNT HAVE THOUGHT TWICE ABOUT STEALING SOMETHING THAT IS PROPERLY LOCKED. I HAVE NO MORE SYMPATHY FOR YOU VICTIMS.
STOP BEING VICITMS.

I'm not sure who is asking for sympathy. Where are you getting that? It happened. It was not the smartest thing for me to do but are you actually blaming me or saying I deserved it? Why can't you just add something productive or go join the Republican Party you Facist.

but seriously.
i was followed for a few blocks down sunset today by a yellow dodge pickup from the 70s with three hispanic males in the cab. it was fun. i lost them a block after burrito king. ironic?

sorry to hear about it. please post a picture if you have one. we'll be keeping an eye out for it on the westside. check craigslist every half hour. you have a small window of opportinity to find it if they post it up there.
also, you might want to post it up at the local bike shops. especially the one on culver and sepulveda. the guy there sells used bikes, but he's a really nice guy. hell let you know if it comes in.
@douchebag
the dude's bike got stolen, lesson learned. now shut the fuck up.
for anyone who didnt hear it before, dont use a cable lock. theyre garbage.

i mean, obviously you have no idea about the gang of people who hang around the burrito king on sunset and alvarado who are notorious for being bike thieves.

Well looks like the alvarado kids are back in business, probably wrecked all their stolen wheels and frames so their out for new ones,
Everytime I pass by there,I scare them off with my mad dog face, like WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT,WHAT WHAT

i was riding up sunset going towards downtown and right when i passed that place that sells all the bikes out of the van on the side of the road they all hopped in the truck and started following me. one guy kept leaning out the window at me. they turned left to go down park/glendale and i just kept on riding. kinda weird.

Yeah that whole area is sketched out, there should be a sign on the bike path at sunset and fountain and at sunset and alvarado that says "enter at your own risk"

I say find the van/truck and have a bunch of riders follow them. maybe they'll do something to expose themselves.

I'm gonna see if some of my friends want to help and maybe confront/attempt to buy and find out where they get their parts.

Yeah, on my way home just now I saw two kids on Glendale, by Jack In The Box, one on a bmx and the other one walking with a rim in his hand.
As for the white van on Sunset, it's been discussed before, as far as I know (read) he's a cool guy or something.

I love the idea that it's any bike owner's fault for using "just" a cable lock. Like that excuses the thieves. Total bullshit. Stealing bikes is FUCKED UP, regardless of the level of security.

the white van on sunset is cool. I've talked to the guy a couple of times. both times he was there with his little daughter and the bikes he has are the kind of junk you would get at goodwill. i think he's just rounding up old bikes at thrift stores and trying to fix them up a little. he definitely is not selling the type of bikes that anyone would think of stealing.
brassknuckle04.24.09 - 6:11 am

Ask the guy in the white van to watch out for us.
Also as mentioned before, spread the word, only a good U LOCK has any chance of withstanding thieves.
We should set up an all city sting one day by leaving bikes with cable locks and watching them. Cameras and video at hand. It should be easy to catch some folks and like most robberies it's usually the same people!!

what about that account of the guy whose u-lock got sawed off?? i mean lucky for him someone gave him a lift in their truck and he recovered the bike from the thief, but what about the people whose bikes have been stolen from inside their homes/apts? i've seen at least 2 of these scenarios in the past month. i got bike jacked for my bike while i was riding the damn thing. it's more than just prevention at this point; a good u-lock is just the start. we need to start overwhelming the cops with reports of stolen bikes. enough of this shit.

I'm not the typical skinny hipster kid who can't defend himself.
I say we do some kind of sting operation. I use the chain lock and post up somewhere waiting for something to happen. Once that suspicious posse rolls up with their vehicle, we should go out there and fuck them up and take our shit back. I'm tired of reading about everyones bikes getting jacked. This is going to continue even if we warn Law Enforcement about it because they simply just don't give a fuck about us.
If you're down with something like that, I'll be so happy to help. I'm a big guy who can easily take on two stupid beaner bitches (mind you im hispanic as well)...
I'm not down with these fucking thefts, these fools need to stop making money off our hard earned work. Fuck this shit.
let me know if you're down with this kind of mission, the more the merrier. I will fuck up a thief and jack his shit for retaliation.

don't do it. Violence won't solve this problem, it will only make it worse. There are other ways to handle this.

It's not fair dude, it really isn't. Most of these victims never get their shit back.

If you set up a sting i would follow the perps and find out where they are stashing everythig. then you would find everyones bikes.
buckchin04.24.09 - 9:14 am

i agree it's not fair. i had a bike stolen from my house when i lived in NoHo (my fault - no lock - felt safe because it was my house). i was jumped on my bike while riding on sunset between echo park and silverlake. I have the urge to get violent too, but what does that solve? it's gonna just be a downward spiral of retaliation if we get violent. I wish I had an easy solution. Step one is getting a good lock or two.
