ECHO PARK, CA - Driving home from downtown I got caught in a little traffic due to an accident. We were close but just missed seeing what happened. Then my friend saw a bike in the street. Traffic was essentially stopped so I threw it in park and got out to help.
I didn't catch the ridaa'z name (he said he was returning from burrito project) but he was laying on the ground with some blood and scrapes, making calls. witnesses had stopped, the car who hit him was parked, and the fire and police were on route.
I spoke to him briefly and offered to help but the only thing he seemed to need (and we didn't have) was a drink of water.
Friends were on route to deal with his mangled bike and the paramedics were just about to show up to help with his bloody and bruised body. So as the cops and medics showed up, without any way to help out we decided to spilt.
Anyway, to the downed ridaa, who's name I didn't get:
I hope your recovery goes well. And I am really glad you were wearing a helmet!
Be safe out there Ridazz!

I remember few details. he had a very new looking bern helmet (matte black) a back pack, and what looked like a very pretty bike that got twisted into a pretzel. He was calling his friends on a black G1 (google phone).

That's strange... I stopped at CVS on my way to class and saw a guy roll up to Jack n Box w/ bloodied up face and NO Saddle... I wanted to ask if he was OK or needed some stuff to clean up his wounds and he just made a dash for the bathroom. When he came out he just hopped on his bike and kept rolling...blood and all. Wonder what it was all about.

thanks bicioso!
I always hate to see a fallen ridaa, especially somebody comin' from helping the community. The aftermath of that crash looked real ugly.
If you see that ridaa please send him my positive thoughts!

Saw this thread late and I'm never on here any more, so ...
The rider is our friend Lon and I just spoke to him last night. He works at Pure Luck. He was cracking jokes and sounded like he was in good spirits, but he'll be in the hospital for a bit. Moi is right, he will need some surgery.
From what I can gather he was hit from behind. These types of accidents are exceedingly rare and far less common than getting doored, so don't let this discourage you from taking the lane when you need too.
Regardless, be careful out there peeps. Have a good rear light and make sure it's angled properly because those things rely on line-of-sight to be effective.

Yups Roadblock, your homie.
BTW the bike is a late 70s Holdsworth road bike converted to fixed gear. When I last checked his bike's frame was OK, but the rear wheel is definitely toast.
The frame could probably be checked and repaired if needed since it's steel. I'm not sure I'd trust the rest of the components after a crash like that, though.

Lonnie is my homie from fucking kindergarten days....anyone have his number? I remember this one time I walked into class late (scared of the consequences) and he was getting paddled by big burly ass Miss Stone in 3rd grade.... I bet this prolly didnt hurt as much as that did....

"From what I can gather he was hit from behind."
That's scary shit. Jeronimo and slackar from lafixed were hit from behind a year and half ago, and slackar seems to still have post-traumatic stress from it.
At least with a door, or a right hook, or anything out in front of you you get a glimpse of it. When you're slammed from behind it probably feels more like a purposeful attack.

yea i saw two cars a white one in the middle of the lane and a
dark colored car pulled over on the right curve. neither car looked wrecked, but i believe they were small sports cars. i don't want to even think of getting hit by a suv...

as i understand it, the white car in the street belonged on somebody that stopped to help.

Here's an update from my good friend and neighbor Brian, who is in a band with Lon:
"I regret to inform you that our drummer Lon was injured when a car rear-ended him on bicycle this past Wednesday night while coming back from delivering burritos with the Burrito Project through Skid Row. Thankfully the woman at fault gave the police her information and her insurance should hopefully be able to foot this bill.
Lon spent the last two nights at the LAC-USC Medical Center. He is now resting at his parents' for a couple days but must undergo surgery on Monday. From what I understand, pins need to be put in his arm to reconnect muscle tissue around his elbow. We are hoping that he will be well enough by May to tour with us throughout the east coast. We have never played a show without him, and would be sad if we had to ask someone else to fill his shoes. ..."
