I would like to extend and invitation to all of you to CATURDAY WARRIORS and be apart of an intense and utterly amazing ride that goes on every Saturday. My hope is to get a grass roots lady's cycling team together in the very near future

This will consist of intense riding in some of LA county's treasured routes. come and ride your bike like it was meant to be ridden.
1. your heartrate will race (average 16-20 miles in an hour)
2. you will be psychologically tested. (no less than 62.3 miles)
3. you will likely need gears (always 2000 ft+ climbing)
4. you will need proper attire (helmet advised)
5. you will need money (for food afterwards)

endurance is everything. fitness is our goal. the right mindset is your best tool. we ride race distances, race type roads.
this is not a race. just enjoying daytime trafficless saturday riding at a fast pace.
If you think you are NOT ready for this but want to work your way up...then don't worry, I am not ready either! We will all work together in order to get to stronger level and be ready to conquer Southern California every Saturday.
don't worry if you are out of shape and haven't been athletic for most of your life...it's time to start now! This isn't just for the boys!

This sounds amazing.
What if you ride a mountain bike?
HappyLand02.27.09 - 12:06 pm

then you will have an easier time up the hills?
=] you'll be a bit slower, you might want to throw on some a road wheels on if you start getting into it.
NO ONE GET'S LEFT BEHIND
i'd prefer you start with whatever bike you have and if you want to get more into it, consider saving up for a road bike. We won't start racing for a while anyway, so there is time. Your first road bike shouldn't be a high end bike anyway. If we get sponsorship, we'll get some discounts...and everyone loves a lady's cycling team to sponsor

'im down but my bike is pretty shitty. i would probably be incredibly faster and stronger with a better bike.
anyone have one i can borrow for this?
i would rather not use my bike.

I would do this if I could. Unfortunately I don't have the time to race, much less the time to train for it. I'm going to let some girls know about this though....

@ Frozen Fingersss and anyone else who doesn't feel they have a decent bike for the ride:
if you can drive...i'm down to split the ride however and while i'm driving, someone can ride my bike.
fair warning...i have SPD clips
you can bring your own pedals and switch them out quick at a stop.
I'm 5'1 and this is my baby!

ALSO, consider taking some spin classes at a local gym. You can google spin classes in los angeles.
you are going to want to focus on some core workouts as well. Your core is your foundation for the ride and those HILLZ! this will make you a stronger climber fo sho. yoga, cruntches, sit ups. This means your back and your abs.

it really doesnt matter what kind of bike you have until you race
and training on a heavier bike will probably get you results faster anyways.
one of our strongest male riders has an absolute abomination for a bike.
seriously the difference from a 25 lb and a 15 lb bike, is most noticeable, when you've grown to your potential on the 25lb bike.
we have bike shop affiliations so we can get you discounts on parts over time, keep the eye out for used parts, and help you maintain your bike in top shape.
mountain bikes, not really recommended. if you have a road bike, start out with new cables and housing, and then work your way to pedals and shoes.

its not fear that will stop you.
its a lack of dedication. but if you put up and fight through it, there is glory to be attained.

I think the way I got fast was not from just any sort of raw ability or fitness, but always trying as hard as I could to hang with the fastest people

we will meet up with the nigerian food ride, pending my patella isn't shattered.
caturday warriors isn't a ride.
its mealtime. and we're serving up paved roads.

oh and ladies, all this talk of the ride being super duper difficult:
well that's your first challenge. breaking the psychological factor and proving your body is stronger than the mind. even if we did 40 miles flat, it is still the hardest shit ever. you will die riding. even if its slow, you're going to payyyyyy....

Meh. Riding isn't scary. What's scary is changing from a lazy rider back into a rider that didn't care how far they were going.
