THE FEAST OF THE WEEK!!!
Cubby Den Dinners are a Bi-Weekly Tradition.
Join the CUB Family at our life changing pot-lucks. Bring an item to be consumed by yourself and the other beasts that will be present. Please reserve your spot on the cubcamp forum with your name, # of guests and what you will be bringing. It seems as though musical instruments are a big hit at these events...and they are MORE than welcome! (most of the time).
The location all depends on the host who has graciously volunteered their home. The Host also decides the theme of the dinner.
Start time is usually 8pm, but again, this is in the Hosts Hands.
in DD v2.0 we will be emphasizing the FOOD aspect. Please bring something more than what you would consume. For Example, bringing a 6-pack is just enough to cover what you are drinking for the night, or dessert. Bring FOOD for everyone else too!
Push harder, Eat faster. Sweat don't come easy, Toughen up.

I believe Rockintothrice will be able to host this week. She lives in the Valley so it will be easy for Spiral to get there. See, she's always thinking of others!

Yes, Sarah is doing Cajun this week. She'll post this evening when gets home.
And remember, Den Dinner 2.0 is supposed be getting back to its roots. DD used to be more of a sit down, proper meal where we can chat and discuss things. Several of the recent dinners consisted more of just snacky foods than a piece of a Dinner Puzzle.
I'm going to attempt Fried Green Tomatoes.

The addy is 221 West Elm, Apt R. Their is a side entrance on the left side of the building that you can lock up at. There's also a railing inside the courtyard of the complex but it's not very big. We'll find a spot though so no worries.

Should I just plan on not working thursday? I've found Caguama or a similar light tasting beer works well with cajun. And even if it doesn't, the legend of the turtle on the bottle is epic.

hey kids,
so ive been trying to delay the inevitable...im sick. it all started when i woke up this morning with a hellish sore throat and i thought "hey maybe its because i slept with my fan on and itll go away" but its only gotten worse :(
so i may have to cancel den din at my house tomorrow..i really dont want to do this but id rather not get everyone sick. ill post tomorrow morning when i wake up to see how i feel.
if not tomorrow ill definately reschedule for hostess.

i think he means the bridge at the end of the canal (most of you call it "mustache bridge") that's at the end of the bike path that continues at the end of fiji way. once you cross over, the park is on the left. i don't know how to get to it from the streets- i only ever bike or walk there.

I will say this, they make damn good pizza in India. Chicken tikka and indian spices work
really well on pizza, as I discovered this afternoon.

I'm not going to work on Wednesday, so there's ample time for folks to come on by and make food. My kitchen doesn't have a ton of counter space, but the stove has 4 burners and you're the first to ask, e-rock. Something tells me we'll be able to find the space to boil some water.

ok, I have enough burgers and brats for an army and a small number of veggie dogs. They were out of veggie-burgers. I also have buns, cheese, pickles, cheese, ketchup, and mustard. I forgot onions and lettuce.
We could use some ice so we don't have to waste fridge space on drinks.
If someone with a vehicle could stop at a supermarket and get a canister of gas for a gas grill, I'll pay you back. Mine is running low and I'm out of time to run errands unless I absolutely have to
Deserts, side dishes, non-grill entrees are all very welcome.
I only have a 6 pack of beer in the house, so bring that.

i'm thinking italian, unless it's been done recently. what do you think?
i'll cook some meat sauce and noodles. there's a nearby restaurant that i can pick up pizza etc. there's also a vegan place on the corner and a liquor store.
but read this-
we just moved so we still don't have a lot of furniture- just a couch, tv, coffee table and i can pull out some fold out chairs. i have two cats- don't know if anyone is allergic. they are super friendly and don't bite or scratch.
i'm a block away from LA Brakeless in Palms.

important note about my place---
it has a shitty sign out front that says "MENTONE MANOR" and the address numbers say something like 3363-3367 i think--- but i'm 3365 1/2 which is up the first staircase behind the front apt. there's a rusted beach bike tied at the bottom of my staircase.

The theme is Japanese food.
There's Mitsuya, a Japanese food market, just down the street from my apartment. There's tons of take-out sushi places, so you could get something ready-made. And there's a likker store on the corner. For sake, Sapporo/Asahi, and Tecate.
I can't believe I haven't hosted Den Dinner before, considering these facts.

Awesome spook I found a website called Cooking With Viagra from the GIS link.
Miso Horny Soup
Filled with protein.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups of water
1/2 cup shiitake mushrooms, cut into strips
1/2 cup extra firm tofu, cut into small cubes
1 tbsp Miso
1 tbsp soy sauce
1/8 tsp ginger, grated
1/8 tsp wasabi powder
Dash sesame oil
Snipped or dried chives, for garnish
1 tablet Cialis
Preparation:
Crush Cialis with mortar and pestle. In a soup pan, mix water, ginger, wasabi powder, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Add white pepper to taste. Add mushrooms and tofu, bring just to a boil, and let soup simmer for 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, mix miso with 1/4 cup of hot water, and stir well to dissolve. Remove soup from heat, stir in miso, and let soup sit covered for 10 minutes. Garnish with Cialis and chives. Make sure the correct person gets the loaded soup.

If you're coming by bike, I'm behind the acupuncture clinic on sepulveda. If you are driving, it's best to turn on berryman from sepulveda, take the alley behind yoshinoya and park in the parking lot that's there. If there isn't a spot, street parking is adjacent.
Look for a picnic table under a tree near the lot, I'll be set up there...

Small update. There is a small chance that i will be heading to help with LBBP tonight depending on what time they roll. Also, Shaun now has a meeting that will prevent him from attending. (btw, his mom makes killer samosas).
If i can come, if i bring food that needs to be heated or cooked, do i assume that it needs to come already hot since we are dining out doors? I was planning on Tofu Mabo as my indian cooking knowledge and skills seriously lack.

Why not just tell your mom you're going to a friend's house for a dinner party? ALL TEH TEENAGE DRAMA. I can call her and reassure her that I'll keep an eye on you to keep you from drinking until you puke and make sure you get home at a reasonable hour. Tell her I'm a dick doctor. That way I sound more authoritative and trustworthy.

Shelters only house a certain number of homeless nightly...and unless they have changed it, extra beds aren't available until the temperature drops below 50 degrees. Women get assulted in shelters and generally speaking, shelters are not safe. People get robbed.
Tiffany, I think you're a good person....but you really should have a better attitude about people that don't have the luxury of having a place to rest their head. We all take for granted the simple things in life that we have.
btw, the definition of Luxury is:
free or habitual indulgence in or enjoyment of comforts and pleasures in addition to those necessary for a reasonable standard of well-being.
With that said, you have a great apartment, car, bikes, a great job, and great friends. Maybe feeding the homeless once in a while aside from the burrito project could be a part of den dinner sometime.....remember it's only twice a month. $5 a person could feed a few homeless twice a month.

i was super grouchy earlier.
i have a hard time feeling bad for homeless people when the majority of them put themselves there. obviously there are several that don't have any control over their situation, but i just have a hard time feeling bad for those that don't work to keep themselves off the street. it's hard, but we all have to do it. i don't know. my mom's cousin was homeless but he chose to live that way. he would never take any offers to live with his children. i know his is an isolated case, but no one in my mom's family had it easy when they came here from el salvador and yet they all made the best of their free education and made their lives what they are today. the only person on welfare is my cousin because she chose to stay with an abusive husband that left her with three children..and now she has two more. i guess you could say i care about giving out education and birth control rather than food.
i work too hard, i'm broke and the goverment takes enough of my money in taxes. i know you can argue against me and win, but it's just how i feel. call me a grinch.

judgement should not be passed from one flawed person to another. and we are all flawed. everyone's story is different. no two people are the same.
my mother once told me that if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all.
i am not perfect either. i could count my flaws on a million hands. endless, really.
what helps me, when i remember, is to think before i talk. think how what i am about to say will affect those that i am around.
and i try my best to put a positive swing on any negativity.

try that. when you are about to say something negative, figure out the positive and say that. i promise you will find yourself smiling way more then you ever have :)

there's also a burrito project in long beach each week- danny zuko has more info- i think it's every tues night at 6:30? since you're all itching to do it- make it happen. i might go volunteer at an animal shelter instead. those places really need extra hands.

Okay, sticking my head in...
I have a torch to pass, so somebody let me know where it's going to be...
I would be up for volunteering again, BUT there is the following to keep in mind:
- I have the aforementioned torch to pass, so it feels appropriate for me to pass it
- I have to be here at the office for a 9:00am meeting with an important client, so before everybody leaves, you'll have to help me make it SPOTLESS. Likewise, I can't stay up until 4am again for the same reason.
- It's raining, so the firepit and barbeque are kinda out, unless it clears up at the last minute. We'd have to pack everybody inside, and I don't have much of a kitchen to speak of, so all the food would have to be brought/delivered.
- It's pretty fucking cold in here. We have heaters, but it's not much to speak of. It's a pretty big space.
So, I'd be down to be the backup place. My suggestion would be that if we do it here, we all throw in for pizza or something. I'm a bit broke at the moment, but I have the space and five bucks to offer.

Yeah, Pizza Hut is across the street, but a few more blocks down is Abbot's, which is infinitely superior. If we're ordering food for delivery, it doesn't really need to be close either.
I'm going to head home in the next hour-ish unless it's certain that I'm hosting at my office.
I could also volunteer my _apartment_, which actually has a proper kitchen and a proper heater and is really close, but it's SMALL. Like, I could have eight people, and ten would get uncomfortable. Plus, bikes would have to stay outside, and that's no fun.
If people are lurking on this thread, chime in. What's the plan?

Meet up at the pool / hot tub area. (BRING SWIMSUITS)
People should try to get there around 8 so we can have plenty of time to swim / dance. The pool closes at 10pm.
Also, if you want to play Wii when we come back up from the pool - bring a few AA batteries to donate. I am fresh out of batteries :)
We have to keep the noise level down after 10pm!!!
If there are too many people to fit into my apt after the pool closes, maybe we should go on a swimsuit ride around venice / the marina area?

johnny, our place is the only place I've ever seen that enforces the "pool closes @ 10" rule. usually it's more of a suggestion.
And boo on your neighbors for being douches for calling the cops about the noise rather than walking 70 feet and asking us to uiet down themselves.

Definitely, I have no regrets!!
I imagine if we didn't have so many people in my place initially coming up from the pool we would have been fine as far as making too much noise. I think my place can handle about 10-12 people before it really starts getting too cramped / loud.
I would appreciate, however, if the front desk would at least fcking call me to warn me before sending a gdamned cop so suddenly.

Talked with a T Wrecks, etotherock and brand2.0 last night about Den Dinner-- there was some talk of hosting it again at the Parthenon / Man House / Trifecta.
Definitely not for sure yet so don't quote me on it, fingers crossed though!
