Yes Marcus, you had the idea first. So props given where props are due. But I love pizza and I had to take it to the next level. Hope you can join in the ridiculousity that will happen this Thursday night.
wtf... papa john's? are you trying to be funny? that shit isn't pizza.
why not start at Bravo on Main St in Santa Monica if yer gonna be at bikerowave anyways.
make yer way over to Michelangelo in Silverlake since you're gonna be over there anyways (ok maybe it ain't cheap but it's mindblowing awesome and insanely authentic)
just saying.
pedones in redondo is decent too if you wanna do a beach leg and make a training ride out of it :-)
Really honestly reallistically speaking, we may eat at 3 spots the whole night, after all, Il Capricio is closing at 10pm. We'd have to really hustle® to get there in time... However, Garage Pizza is open until midnight. Budget $3 for a cheese slice and an $0.50 per any extra topping, and multiply that by how many slices you *think* you can eat. And that's your budget for the night.
And yes, Papa John's isn't even worth the stop, but that dot is an important one, the pizza slice must be complete!
We could end at Bravo's, they're open until 1:30am.
Hey, that's what makes CubCamp more inclusive! Plus, Cubs are slow by nature...
Both Z-Pie in West Hollywood and Garage Pizza in Silverlake were delicious. Luis, thanks for coming out, next time bring more eastsiders and you can cut out halfway. Everyone gets their workout, everyone rides the same distance, no cars have to get parked at BikeRoWave.
Even though we deviated, we still did 29.8 miles! That dip into the Scientology headquarters area at Fountain and L. Ron Hubbard Way was, umm, different. Riding through blue fog near Staples/Nokia made my night. So dope.
What if I was to bring commemorative medallions instead of spokecards for those who make it all the way up? That way you can really remember this CubCamp for "posterity" or whatever that big word was :P
You can always use MapMyRide.com to find out such details. The last 3.5 miles of the climb will be between 6 and 7% grade, and the final elevation will be just under 1100 feet.
sweet sweet ride, i didnt really need to wear mandex after all. Sorry about the crash, spontaneous braking is severely stupid on my part. If you end up needing any parts I have some wheels/cranks lying around.
That said, great ride guys, climb up to hollywood sign was freaking sexy
-Gary!
- Starts on time (15 minutes late) and gets Matty a brake on his "new" bike
- 3 cub pile up, no injuries, one demented chainring
- Best dressed off the clock Midnight Rida contest
- Danny Zuko floor pump delivery service
- If you can't bike to the top, RUN!
- Our good buddy LOWRDN
Heck of a ride, I think everyone got to the next level after this one, whatever that means from a physical standpoint.
Glad nobody was hurt during the pileup. There should be a rule instated that CubCamp only runs reds Safely and Carefully. Mike, sorry you had to cut out early, we'll redo this one just for you.
Once we turned north from Hollywood Bl, it was a nice warmup climb for a bit. Matt got a flat, and while he was changing his tube, I swear I thought the dude in the truck (Danny?) was trying to hit us when he skidded to a stop just behind him. Turns out he was a rider, he immediately busted out a floor pump and gave us a hand.
Then it got serious. The last 2 miles to the top were broken up into two big climbs, both equally painful. Gary had a nice steady spin going which made me wish I had gears. I felt like my lower back muscles were going to detach, and I pulled so hard on my bullhorns that it today it feels like I did a serious upper body workout. I don't know about you guys, but catching short glimpses of the city is what kept me going. That and the fact that I was relying on Gary's headlight.
The Hollywood sign itself is protected by a fence and there's a good amount of security cameras pointed at it. So we didn't actually touch the sign, we were about 30 feet above it, behind a fence. Nevertheless, the view on both sides was stunning.
The ride back down, once we got past the sand/gravel portion onto smooth road, was poetry in motion. The air was warmer than expected, and the winding curves were a blast. Excellent job calling out obstacles.
All right, it's less than 24 hours until cubcamp does or does not happen. It's time to get your shit together, E-rock and Mihai, and settle on a frickin' route already.
STOP THIS NONSENSE RIGHT AWAY AND LET THE YOUNG FOLKS WHO'VE NEVER BEEN ON CUBCAMP ASK RELEVANT QUESTIONS ABOUT RIDING ON CUBCAMP
sheesh.
Lil' Kev, where you at man? Haven't seen you in months! Bring that mtn bike of yours, you kept up before, you can do it again!
Gary7, too cool for school buddy? This one's going to fun, I know you lean towards the "no pain no gain" rides, but we may have a hill or two in there for you.
SeanBonner - I know where you live buddy. No reason you shouldn't be present Thu night.
