Conspiracy?

Now this is purely based on speculation and modeled in the fashion of utter conspiracy theory...
What's going on? Bikes are being stolen left and right. Cyclists are getting hit, attacked, and sabotaged. There seems to be a trend toward people fucking with us. It goes beyond mere coincidence. It seems to be a movement.
How possible is it that some citizens have formed an anti cyclists group intent on disbanding large gatherings of cyclists?
"Malarkey!" You say?
I know... sounds like something Bentsrider would hypothesize as he's barreling down the high desert highway in the middle of the night!
Rewind a few months... Crimanimals were getting exposure for a few quietly planned yet loudly spoken events that aimed to create an awareness of cycling. This pissed a lot of people off. There were people creating usernames on here just to threaten us. The news covered the events as well as many blogs.
Who's to say some of these disheveled drivers and sympathizers haven't formed secret google groups to discuss their plans to deliberately destroy our group? One by one, planning, following and purposely doing these things in an attempt to make us "stop." What if there's a Crimanimals against us?
All this theft and nonsense could be blamed on the current state of the "economy" but what if... just for a moment, we consider that people are doing this to revolt against all the cyclists that ever held them up at lights, yelled at 'em for apparently no reason, hit their car with a u lock/beer can/stuffed animal/child/wife, peed in their yard, trashed their business' parking lot, or the tweaked out homeless people we wake up as we ride past them under the bridge? What if it's cops, tired of chasing us around each night, or someone who thinks Digablesoul has played Salt n Peppa' one too many fuckin' times from his bike stereo?!
Just a thought that came to my head as I sit here at WORK on NYD waiting for video to render...

Hey, I like that song!!
I had a similar conspiracy theory once. The last ride I went on I was sincerely thinking, "Did someone scope this route? And if they did, why did they bring us on it? This has got to be the worst route I've ever rode on." and so on and so forth.
I've always asked why the cops don't really mess with us (because they don't) and now I'm thinking they might try to infiltrate us from within.

I think the U-lock companies are the ones behind this conspiracy.
Just think, what's the one thing almost ALL of the stolen bikes had in common?
Almost all of them were either unlocked or only locked with a cable lock.
Coincidence? I think not.

The day when motorists are gathering underground to form clubs and revolt against cycling culture is the day we have won.

kind of how the gubment fucked with panthers, and made them disband by creating chaos within. im not putting the midnight ridazz up to the light of the panthers...but same dumb minded ideologies.
Look @ all the retarded rides coming up, cats wanting to actually fuck with police, people getting their shit stolen and fucked with...
This is no coincedence...someone is fucking with us all!

I figure there's more thefts because there's more ridazz.
There are a LOT more ridazz around her than there were when I started riding with y'all, and that was just a year ago. People who have been here since The Day are probably pretty freaked out about that.
Also, the more ridazz there are, the more bikes thieves see around, the hotter the property out and about, the savvier thieves become. They're seeing all these bikes around and they're learning what's valuable and what's not, what's worth stealing and what to pass up.
So it's a conspiracy insofar as there's a group of people strategizing the best way to fuck us over, but not because they want to fuck us over. Just because we have something they can sell.
This is my thinking.

We're being infiltrated by a bizarre, political-faction that intends to use the means of cycling as a vehicle for their idealogies.
Right now, we're happily riding along listening to our music and having a good time.
But, it will get to the point where "rolling" will take a back-seat, and stops to rally a political, bullshit, protest will be the norm.
Okay, I honestly think it's a combination of overexposure and "that time of the year", but really.
We need to keep politics and F.U.N. on separate, fucking platforms!!!!

Well, having an ex who's uncle is a detective. Here's what I know, they have guys that do nothing but scan all kinds of websites for any little tid bit of illegal activity. That's how they bust a lot of dumb taggers. As for caring about partying bike riders, from personal experience with the LAPD bicycle cops, they look the other way, at least when it comes to minor traffic infractions..or smoking bud. Even when it comes to selling on the side (which the bike messengers that hung around the 777 address sign used to during the early 90's). Then there was that open air weed market that was right next to the 5st LAPD station. So, I wouldn't worry about being busted for riding & smoking near downtown. But pissing & littering everywhere would piss them off. So, enjoy the ride...

If there's a conspiracy, it's our fault. And I don't blame anybody that's against what most MR rides have turned into. We're supposed to be promoting cycling, showing people that riding a bike is indeed a reliable, safe, cheap and most importantly FUN alternative to driving. But, that's not what people are seeing. People are seeing irresponsibility. If we want people to take cycling seriously, then we have to take it seriously ourselves. Yeah, it's fun to party on rides -- by all means, don't stop the FUN! -- but, why can't we make better choices? Vandalism, littering, violence, plain disrespect.. what the fuck happened to our bicycle culture?

The simplist explanation is usually the right one (no conspiracy, there are just more riders so more jackings, more run-ins).
On the other hand, just because you're not paranoid, doesn't mean someone isn't following you, plotting against you.
You pick.
