"Sometimes police officers drive in such a way that endangers cyclists such as driving into the
middle of a group of bicycles, or cutting them off before asking them to stop. It is important for
everyone to understand that safety is the first priority when it comes to the law, and police officers
have never have the right to act in an unsafe manner."
sounds like this applies to that ride where a bunch of people got red light tickets

sounds like the last crankmob, LACM and midnight ridazz rides. i wonder what would happen if we actually passed these out to the cops with that highlighted?
maybe they'd actually behave themselves.

Ian, for the pocket guide, instead of making it two copies on one page, I'd suggest making it two columns with a bit more information. the equipment requirements section, the section about cops having to obey safety precautions, and anything else pertinent that could be added.
A single page is pretty pocketable.

yes, i know. i dont think the police feel accountable for their actions. we need to let them know that we know our rights and that we arent going to let them get away with endangering and hurting people.
we need to start organizing and taking names, and making them afraid to fuck with us. a picture is worth a thousand words, but a video is priceless. think about how that one little videotape in 1992 changed so many minds by simply telling a story that people all over LA were so familiar with.
i'd love it if these bad cops would just stop being stupid. but let's face it, they have guns and handcuffs and there's usually no chance of winning an argument with them on the street. in a courtroom, or under the public scrutiny, however, you can expose them for what they are and force them to do the right thing.
if you ask me, that's just what we need to do. these pamphlets are our reasonable demands. if the police dont want to respect the law, let them declare war on law and order. i'll be right there with my camera.

are you talking about cops or riders?

ridazz arent supposed to behave themselves; cops are held to a higher standard than the citizen.

This attitude is why we have cops show up in the first place. They have other things they would be doing is people weren't being ass hats. This is not to justify cops not following protocol, but we should be spending more time making sure we don't give cops a reason to show than trying to flip things back around on the cops. Creating conflicts only to prove the police suck is not productive.

i have to agree with you there. i was referring to the drinking and running red lights, as opposed to tagging or stealing.

But seriously, this is cool. It's good to be able to prove that we know our rights.

drinking in public and running red lights is just as illegal as tagging and stealing. ive done the former plenty of times while on a bike, and will probably continue to do so. but if i ever get a ticket for it, i certainly wont be complaining about it like most of the people here.

no one's saying that it's ok to run red lights or drink in public, but that's certainly no reason to handcuff kids or drive police cruisers into a crowd of cyclists, causing accidents and then pealing off. that's called reckless driving, no matter who you are.
in addition, i've been pulled over numerous times while riding legally and its obvious that the police dont understand the laws. let's be clear, this is the real problem. what's the point of trying to create bike friendly laws if the police dont understand the laws already on the books?

Yes! I have one of these and it was pretty great seeing PC use it as a source of WRITTEN LAW to argue with OFFICER ANGER. Great times.
